The Absolute Universe line has been incredibly popular lately. Highlights include its first team-up with Batman and Wonder Woman, Superman’s compelling story, and the gorgeous return of Absolute Martian Manhunter. These books really shine when reimagining classic characters, and the latest villain promises to be the most impressive yet. Get ready for a redesigned Poison Ivy to wreak havoc in Gotham City soon!
Poison Ivy, one of Batman’s longest-lasting enemies, has transformed significantly over the years. Originally a seductive villain, she’s become a major threat, often blurring the lines between good and evil. While hints of her new direction appeared in Absolute Batman #10, we’re now getting our first real look at her evolved form, and she’s proving to be a formidable foe.
The Brand New Poison Ivy
The updated Poison Ivy design, like those of other villains, blends familiar elements with a fresh appearance. She retains her iconic long red hair and swimsuit-style outfit, but her new costume is primarily red. Her arms and legs gradually transition to green, becoming more marked as they reach her hands and feet. What really stands out is the addition of feathers and what look like claw-shaped bones on her shoulder, giving her a dinosaur-like quality and suggesting she might have powers beyond plant control.
Poison Ivy is getting a major upgrade in the pages of Absolute Batman #17. Released by the villains of Arkham M, this new version of Poison Ivy threatens Gotham City with a power that could have global consequences. The following issue, #18, will see Batman battling both Poison Ivy and monstrous creatures she’s created, hinting that her abilities now extend beyond plant control to include animalistic forces. Facing a threat he can’t handle on his own, Batman will join forces with Barbara Gordon to save the city before it’s destroyed.
Poison Ivy’s updated appearance perfectly captures her classic character while also adding a frightening new dimension that will definitely impact anyone she encounters. We’ll see this play out next year, and I’m really excited to see how Batman will deal with her new form.
Absolute Batman #17 will be unleashed on store shelves on February 22, 2026.
