As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’d put it like this: The Absolute Universe sets itself apart from the mainstream DC Universe with its dark energy woven by the malevolent force of Darkseid. This isn’t your typical superhero saga; the obstacles our heroes confront are monumental and deeply entrenched in society, and their very identities have been reshaped or altered. For instance, the Absolute Batman has had his wealth, global training, and tragic origin story stripped away. His mother is alive, and he’s become a brutal, rougher version of the Caped Crusader we’re familiar with. Yet, beneath the surface, he remains the same Batman we all adore. But
Ark M’s Experiments Changed Batman
In the finale of issue #9, Batman penetrated deep into the confines of Arkham Prison to locate his lost companion, Waylon. Regrettably, Bruce encountered Absolute Bane, a far more menacing iteration than his initial self. This new Bane quickly overpowered Batman in combat, further demoralizing him by revealing his grotesque form when using Venom. As a result, Batman was apprehended and transported to participate in the horrific human experiments that Arkham was designed for. Unfortunately, no one could rescue him before issue #10 unfolded, offering insights from the enigmatic Doctor Arkham’s logs about the procedures used on Bruce (referred to as Subject 27), replicating those applied to Bane.
Batman refuses to back down, even when his hidden arsenal is surgically removed from his body. Instead, he improvises new weapons using the resources at hand. He rips out his own teeth for makeshift brass knuckles, alters his feeding tube to shoot stomach acid at enemies, and transforms bat guano into explosives. He repeatedly attempts escape, each time venturing further into the sinister experiments of the facility, encountering some of his most formidable adversaries like Poison Ivy and Clayface. Regrettably, Bruce is always recaptured by Bane. Over and over again, he’s apprehended, until his spirit begins to falter. After three months, Bruce has surrendered completely, having been significantly altered by the experiments. They installed brain stem inserts, and the veins on his upper body began to glow green, reminiscent of Venom, and they took the shape of a bat.
In the penultimate trial, they left his bat-suit and equipment in the same room as him, pushing his resilience to the limit one last time before the grand finale. Initially, Bruce protested, yelling for the suit to leave him be, believing there was no hope of victory. Yet, the suit remained, symbolizing all the commitments and obligations he’d made, embodying Batman’s unyielding spirit. Winning wasn’t crucial for Batman; he just needed to keep fighting. With renewed determination, Bruce donned the bat-suit once more, and Batman shattered his confinement walls. Bane tried to detain him again, but their battle triggered the release of Walyon, who had morphed into a monstrous, nightmare-inducing creature resembling a dragon-like crocodile. He hurled Bane aside, and together with his allies, they escaped into the sewers. Doctor Arkham inquired about Bane’s anticipation for the final stage, to which the beast replied that he relished the prospect of truly defeating Batman, turning him into someone just like himself.
Batman Is Stronger Than Ever
In a different phraseology: Although Batman hasn’t undergone a complete Venom transformation like Bane, it’s evident he’s experiencing the drug’s impact within him. His extraordinary strength, demonstrated by breaking through the wall holding him, suggests an increase in his physical abilities. The green veins that resemble a bat pattern on Batman are hard to ignore, especially since the area where this transformation occurred is labeled as the Langstrom Experiment and is filled with partially-mutated, distorted creatures with bat-like features. Doctor Arkham mentioned no one else survived these experiments, and given Bane’s statements, it seems likely that Batman is being turned into a Venom-like creature similar to Bane. However, there’s also the possibility that Batman is being engineered to become a Man-Bat hybrid in this ominous timeline, though I personally favor the idea of him turning fully Venom-like.
