Absolute Flash #10 is a Jaw-Dropping Shocker That’s Near Perfect (Review)

Most fans don’t consider Absolute Flash to be one of the best Absolute books, often finding it surprisingly slow for a story about the fastest hero. But recently, starting around issue #8, the story has really picked up, and issue #10 delivers on that momentum. The book has been building to something big, and this issue finally reveals a lot in its final pages. It was a genuinely shocking and exciting read that feels like a turning point for the series.

From the very start, what’s always impressed me about Absolute Flash is its character work, and this issue really showcases that strength. We all know Wally West and Grodd are compelling, but Captain Cold… there’s just something about him. He’s so capable and collected, he instantly commands your attention whenever he appears. Honestly, the Rogues have been a standout element of this series since day one, and this issue utilizes them brilliantly. Trickster continues to be a scene-stealer – Jesse’s sharp humor never misses – and the fight with Heatwave is a fantastic little diversion, perfectly capturing the Rogues’ dynamic with a clever assist. It’s a genuinely enjoyable sequence that makes you think the main event is over… but trust me, it’s not.

Rating: 4.5 out 5

Pros Cons
The last few pages hits you with reveal after reveal, and it’s shocking in the best possible way Golden Glider and Captain Boomerang don’t pull their own weight compared to Cold and Trickster
Exciting, well laid-out fight with Heatwave
The art is fantastic, and it makes an already great issue even better

This issue centers around the mystery of Fort Fox and finally unveils Thawne’s plan to trap Wally – and the reveal is massive. The story is expertly paced by Lemire, starting with an action-packed first half and then shifting to the book’s signature psychological elements. I was genuinely surprised by the turn of events; Lemire led me to believe it would be a typical issue, so the big moment really took me by surprise. While it was theoretically possible based on previous issues, I didn’t anticipate the story going in this direction. I’m still unsure where things are headed, but Lemire has consistently delivered compelling stories, and I’m eager to see what happens next.

Absolute Flash #10 Vaults Over the High Bar the Book Has Already Set

Nick Robles’ artwork continues to be a highlight of this book, and this issue is no exception. Every page looks incredible, from the suspenseful scenes at Fort Fox and the fight with Heatwave to the major revelations at the end. The dynamic panel layouts, impressive detail, and expressive character work really bring the dialogue to life. Robles’ depiction of Cold is a big part of why I’m enjoying this series so much. The action sequence with Heatwave is exactly the kind of exciting spectacle this book excels at, building towards a powerful and climactic finish.

As a film and comic book enthusiast, I have to say Robles’s artwork is absolutely crucial to how well the ending works. The build-up to the reveal is incredible, and the art does a fantastic job of ratcheting up the tension. When the big moment finally arrives, it’s presented beautifully. From there, the story dives headfirst into some seriously creepy territory, with Wally facing a threat unlike anything he’s ever encountered. It’s a genuinely gripping couple of pages, and Robles’s art truly makes them come alive. Honestly, the art has been consistently strong throughout, but it really shines and carries the story to a powerful conclusion here.

After a slow start, Absolute Flash really picks up the pace in this issue, delivering two major twists that completely shift the story’s direction. I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn’t put it down, right up to the surprising ending. While this series hasn’t appealed to everyone, the recent issues have significantly improved it and addressed earlier concerns. Overall, it’s a great comic and leaves me excited to see what happens next.
