As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I must say that “Absolute Superman” has truly redefined the Kryptonian saga in ways that have loosened Kal-El’s ties to this ancient mythology like never before. Even though Krypton no longer exists, the valuable lessons learned there are more relevant and vibrant than ever. These lessons become even more crucial as the world around me evolves at an unprecedented pace, and I find myself grappling with the twists and turns that challenge everything I believe in. With the latest jaw-dropping twist in “Absolute Superman #10”, hanging onto those lessons and memories will be a tougher task than ever before.
As the narrative unfolds, the Absolute Superman propels us forward, yet the formative years spent with his family continue to significantly shape the man he aspires to be. This is a testament to Jason Aaron’s skillful reinvention of Kal-El’s bond with his roots and childhood, ensuring that these connections remain as vital as ever. Aaron expertly employs this past to illuminate Kal-El’s current mental state and perspective on the world, all while maintaining a sharp focus on the present moment.

During the storyline, you don’t physically encounter Superman until well into it. However, his influence is palpable from the start, a testament to the exceptional work by Carmine Di Giandomenico (artist), Ulises Arreola (colorist), and Becca Carey (letterer). Initially, Superman appears as a powerful force of nature in the clouds, bringing devastation down on Ra’s Al Ghul and Brainiac’s armies. The vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows contrast sharply with the cool blues, whites, and purples of Ra’s chosen battleground. Each movement by Superman, skillfully emphasized by Carey’s impressive lettering, seems to shake the very earth beneath our feet and leave the landscape battered in its wake.
To prepare the stage for Superman’s true appearance, there’s a page that reads like it was plucked from an ancient myth, yet it’s crucial to recognize that throughout this tale, destruction’s reign never overshadows the ongoing struggle within and the internal battle for one’s soul. The story consistently revolves around who Kal-El believes he must be, who he aspires to be, and who he truly feels he is, with this character arc always taking center stage at every juncture.
This revelation leads to an unexpected turn that challenges everything we thought we understood about the combatants, and the surprising nature of this turn is undeniable. However, its true impact lies in its potential implications for the narrative’s future. Moreover, this twist significantly affects characters like Lois, Jimmy, and even disrupts the harmony within Ra’s alliance. I must admit, I didn’t anticipate this development, but I am eager to see where it will lead us next.
The tenth issue of Absolute Superman maintains the exceptional standard this series has consistently upheld since its debut, while skillfully incorporating fresh twists on expectations and steering the narrative towards captivating new paths. I wholeheartedly endorse it!
