Absolute Wonder Woman Just Dropped a Big Tease for the Next Aquaman

In simpler terms, the Absolute Universe has given a fresh, significant makeover to some of DC Comics’ most iconic characters, including Superman and Martian Manhunter. These characters have been re-envisioned in numerous aspects while retaining their fundamental traits that make them so popular. So far, six of these revamped versions have emerged, all being original members of the Justice League, often referred to as the Original Seven. However, one classic Justice League character, Aquaman, has yet to appear in the Absolute Universe. But now, with the release of Absolute Wonder Woman, that’s about to change. Diana now wields a new weapon which might help locate Aquaman for the first time ever.

Introducing Aquaman into the all-encompassing Universe would be a significant milestone, enlarging the Justice League’s influence and fostering the development of future team storylines. The hint at this hero’s appearance is cleverly placed within Absolute Wonder Woman, and the journey Diana embarks on to make it happen adds an exciting twist.

Diana, Clea, and Water That is Far From Ordinary

Wonder Woman ventured into Area 41’s labyrinth in search of a missing Amazon. Instead, she encountered Clea, an Atlantean disguising herself as an Amazon and ruling the labyrinth with her army of fish-people. After plummeting to the deepest part of the maze and casting a spell to dispel illusions, Diana saw what appeared to be a watery serpent. To her surprise, this was another Amazon named Io who had been caring for those left to die within the labyrinth. Io showed Diana a tunnel the prisoners had tried to dig, but it led only to the sea. Realizing the situation, Diana instructed Io to guide everyone to the exit she’d created while she dealt with Clea. The sentient water reappeared, and Wonder Woman agreed to help it complete its form so they could all escape together.

In this rephrased version, the narrative goes as follows:

In the confrontation, Wonder Woman approached Clea, suggesting a peaceful resolution. However, instead of accepting the offer, Clea retaliated by thrusting her trident at Wonder Woman, which appeared to contain a tiny fragment of intelligent water. Diana, undeterred, caught the blow and hurled the trident back into the deep waters. The action left Clea visibly distressed, indicating her attachment to the trident. Upon returning the trident, Diana explained that it was being returned. Suddenly, a gush of sentient water emerged and formed around Wonder Woman’s hand, taking the shape of a water-based trident reminiscent of Aquaman’s weapon.

This paraphrased version maintains the original narrative while making it more accessible and easier to read for a broader audience.

Aquaman Is the King of All Water

This is the most significant hint towards Absolute Aquaman we’ve seen so far. It appears that Clea was using a sentient water source to control her fishmen, which allowed her to rule in the Maze. However, now that the water has returned to its original state and Clea no longer possesses her power, she can no longer act like a queen. This leads us to speculate that the water may have the ability to manipulate marine life, similar to how Aquaman does. To summarize, our first encounter with Atlantis or an Atlantian character is Clea, who differs from her mainline comic counterpart in not ruling over her own city. The Absolute Universe often alters key aspects for each hero, so this could be the change for Aquaman. It’s possible that Atlantis no longer exists, but it could also mean that Aquaman himself is missing, and instead of him lacking a kingdom, his kingdom lacks its king. An intriguing possibility is that Aquaman might have been transformed into water himself.

Though this trident might not be Aquaman himself, it could be closely associated with him. It may hold a fragment of his power, which he’ll need to reclaim if he’s to assert himself as a hero once more. Given the possible destruction of Atlantis, he may have to embark on a quest to recover it. This trident could mark the beginning of Aquaman’s resurgence, being one of the Last Seven Original heroes yet to be fully explored.

In an interesting twist, Absolute Wonder Woman is set to cross over with another hero first, as she teams up with Absolute Batman in issue #15 of her series. Wonder Woman appears to be a key figure in uniting the Absolute heroes, making it fitting to hint at Aquaman’s arrival through her comic.
