After sixteen years, the popular fantasy romance manga Yona of the Dawn by Kusanagi Mizuho finished its run in December 2025. The story, which began in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine in 2009, follows Princess Yona and her bodyguard, Hak, after they are forced to flee the castle due to a betrayal. Their adventure takes them across the Kouka Kingdom and beyond, as they work to protect the people with the help of their friends. An anime adaptation was released in 2014, and though fans hoped for more, it took over a decade to get confirmation of a sequel. The main storyline concluded with a poignant ending, though the author has hinted at future stories focusing on the characters after their main journey is complete.
The anime series stopped at a key point – right as Yona assembled her Four Dragon Warriors and was about to start their adventure. Season 2 promises to be even more captivating, with the princess facing bigger obstacles than before. While we’re still waiting for news about the anime’s return, the manga is continuing with new volumes and a special fanbook. Recently, the author, Mizuho, shared an update and a sneak peek at the latest release on her official X account.
Yona of the Dawn Creator Promotes The Official Fanbook

Mizuho announced a special fanbook to celebrate the end of Yona of the Dawn. It will be included in the February 20th issue of Hana to Yume and features an interview about the finale, as well as answers to questions submitted by fans.
If you’re planning to read the comic books, be aware that they contain spoilers, so please read them after you finish the main story. Also, the author’s notes sometimes add extra details that might distract from the manga itself, so feel free to skip those if you just want a straightforward reading experience. I received a lot of questions and could only answer a few, but I’m glad if you enjoyed my responses. I apologize for not being able to reply to everyone, and thank you all for your wonderful questions and kind words!
This fanbook includes character details and a question-and-answer section featuring responses from Mizuho to fan questions. Due to the series’ huge popularity, Mizuho couldn’t answer every question received. The fanbook will be released in Japan on February 20, 2026, alongside manga Volume 47.
While a worldwide release date is still to come, you can find links to buy the first 45 English volumes of the manga on the official Viz Media website, both as physical copies and digital downloads. In a few weeks, they’ll also announce when the final volume, number 48, will be available. This last volume includes the final two chapters of the story, plus an extra story showing what happens with the characters after the main story ends.
What to Expect From Yona of the Dawn’s Anime Sequel

The studio hasn’t released any previews of the new season yet. While we anticipate updates this year, it’s uncertain when they’ll arrive unless the studio shares more information. The next season will continue Yona’s story as she works to save the Kouka Kingdom, which has suffered under her father’s rule.
As she becomes increasingly strong, she uses her power to aid every village she encounters, supported by the kingdom’s most skilled warriors. The story also features a developing romance between Hak and Yona, which will be further explored in the upcoming season. You can currently watch the first season on Crunchyroll, making it a great time to get acquainted with the series before the new episodes arrive.
