Please be aware that this article contains spoilers for the Yona of the Dawn manga! The popular manga series by Kusanagi Mizuho ended in December 2025, but the anime adaptation hasn’t caught up yet. After a wait of over ten years, the anime has been confirmed to return, though a release date hasn’t been announced. This month also saw the return of the manga with new side stories, which will be included in a final Volume 48. After 16 years, the manga concluded with a moving ending that left some questions about what happens to the characters afterward. Yona will finally become the ruler of the Kouka Kingdom, with Hak and Yoon by her side. However, the four Dragon Warriors are leaving Hiryuu Castle to pursue their own paths, promising to meet again in the future.
Fans of Yona of the Dawn have a lot to look forward to in 2026, with both a sequel to the anime and new manga volumes expected. This month, the manga creator also celebrated the birthday of a lesser-known character, Algira, who hasn’t appeared in the anime yet. Because Algira loves cats, the creator chose February 22nd – Japanese Cat Day – as his birthday and shared a beautiful illustration of him on their official X account.
Who Is Algira in Yona of the Dawn?

Algira is a highly skilled warrior from the Xing Kingdom, known as one of the Five Stars. Xing is next to the Kouka Kingdom, and Yona and her companions visit it during a time of trouble. Xing was facing internal conflict because two princesses were competing for the throne. Algira supported Princess Tao, who wanted to establish peace with Kouka, while the other princess, Kouren, favored continuing the war.
Prior to King Il’s rule, the Kingdom of Kouka committed terrible acts against the Xing Kingdom, and those wounds are still healing. Algira understood that starting another war would only cause more suffering, so he opposed it. Before Yona and her companions arrived in Xing, he asked to examine Ao. Immediately charmed by the adorable squirrel, he quickly befriended the group, though his true identity remained hidden.
Since this character doesn’t appear until chapter 127, it’s unlikely we’ll see him animated in season 2. The anime still has a lot of story to cover – it hasn’t even begun Yona’s main adventure after uniting all the Dragon Warriors. As the story continues, Yona will meet new characters like Algira, who will play a significant role in their journey.
