With the conclusion of ‘Bosch: Legacy’ and the launch of ‘Ballard,’ the ‘Bosch’ world is expanding on MGM+ with a brand new show – this time, a story set *before* the events of the original series.
I’m really excited about the new series coming out – it’s called *Bosch: Start of Watch*. It’s a prequel, and they’ve cast Cameron Monaghan, who you probably know from *Gotham*, as a younger Harry Bosch. It’s interesting because Titus Welliver has already made the role so iconic across several fantastic shows, so it’ll be cool to see a different take on the character’s origins.
The new season of the series draws inspiration from Michael Connelly’s books, but isn’t based on any single story. Connelly himself describes it as exploring new ground for the characters. Joining the cast is Omari Hardwick (known from ‘Power’) as Eli Bridges, a seasoned police officer who mentors a young, rookie Bosch.
As a huge fan of Michael Connelly’s work, I’m really excited about ‘Bosch: Start of Watch’! It’s a prequel series that takes us all the way back to 1991, showing a young, 26-year-old Harry Bosch as he’s just starting out as a rookie cop in Los Angeles. From what I understand, it’s going to really capture the feel of the city at that time – a place brimming with racial tensions, gang problems, and a police department that was pretty divided. It sounds like a gritty and compelling look at the origins of this iconic detective.
While handling everyday police work and increasing city tensions, Harry Bosch gets involved in a major robbery that quickly reveals deep-seated corruption within the criminal justice system. This case will challenge his principles and ultimately define him as a detective who believes everyone deserves equal consideration.
Filming for the new series will take place in Los Angeles, the same location used for previous shows like Bosch, Bosch: Legacy, and Ballard. Speaking of Ballard, starring Maggie Q, Prime Video has already ordered a second season.
Michael Wright, from MGM+, announced they’re excited to share the story of how the famous detective Harry Bosch became who he is, expanding the world of the popular Bosch series.
Cameron Monaghan and Omari Hardwick powerfully portray the characters, and with Michael Connelly and our skilled producers guiding the way, *Bosch: Start of Watch* aims to continue the series’ tradition of realistic, compelling stories while also launching a fresh, thrilling storyline.
Connelly expressed his gratitude to Michael Wright and the MGM+ team for their careful and respectful approach to continuing the Bosch story.
It’s a real treat to finally see the origins of Harry Bosch and understand how he became the character fans have enjoyed for ten seasons. I’m excited to work with Cameron and the writers to delve into this new side of him.
Micky Haller, another character created by Michael Connelly, also has his own TV series, *The Lincoln Lawyer*. However, this show is a separate production that streams on Netflix.
