After much anticipation, followers of the A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) book series have received the long-awaited update: The initial version of the upcoming novel is now finished.
Readers have eagerly anticipated the upcoming sixth installment in the series, tentatively titled ACOTAR 6, following the release of “A Court of Silver Flames” in 2021, given that there are already four novels and a novella preceding it in the collection.
Now, they can start getting excited in earnest.
The romantic fantasy series hails from author Sarah J. Maas, the creative mind behind both the cherished Throne of Glass and Crescent City series.
At some point, there had been plans for an ACOTAR television series, but it appears those plans may have been put on hold. This is because Disney is expected to relinquish the rights to the books this coming late summer, and author Sarah J. Maas might transfer them to a different studio or platform.
Here’s what we currently understand about A Court of Thorns and Roses 6, along with an estimated release date. Keep reading for all the details.

Let me share what little we have so far about ACOTAR 6 and when it might be out. Read ahead for the full scoop.
When will the next A Court of Thorns and Roses book be released?

We don’t yet know when ACOTAR 6 will be released, but we do know it is in the works.
During a TikTok conversation with Spotify in December 2024, Maas hinted that the upcoming book would be extensive. He went on to say, “At this point, I can’t disclose who or what it will be about, or the plot. However, I promise to share more information with you shortly.
More recently, in July 2025, Maas shared on Instagram that she completed the initial draft of the book, which suggests that we might not have to wait much longer for its release.
In a cryptic manner, she hinted that “initial versions” have been wrapped up – could it be that multiple books might be in store for us?
Readers have been eagerly anticipating a fresh ACOTAR book for quite some time now (the last one was published in 2021), yet this extended wait doesn’t imply that the author has been inactive. To the contrary, since 2020 she has also unveiled three books within her new Crescent City series, with the latest being published in 2024.
Apart from sharing that her writing speed has decreased slightly following the arrival of her children, she confided to Today: “Previously, I used to churn out two books annually, but I had no social life to speak of. In essence, I was similar to Gollum in my secluded writing den, engrossed in my work throughout the day.
Now I can enjoy the sunlight because my kids go to school. This has slowed down the pace of my writing, as I manage to publish a book each year or every year and a half. Balancing a job with the need to concentrate on it while also caring for my children is challenging.
Given that the initial draft of A Court of Thorns and Roses 6 is already finished, it seems plausible to anticipate its release in the year 2026.
What will ACOTAR 6 be about and what has Sarah J Maas said?

It remains uncertain both the title and plot of ACOTAR 6. Nevertheless, many enthusiastic readers seem to agree that the upcoming book is expected to focus on Feyre’s youngest sister, Elain.
In 2022, during an interview with LiveTalksLA, Maas expressed that when Nesta and Elain reappeared in “A Court of Mist and Fury”, he felt certain their stories would extend past what readers had already witnessed.
She continued: “They were in the middle of their own journeys.”
Since we’ve previously published a book about Nesta’s adventure titled “A Court of Silver Flames”, it appears plausible for the next book to center around Elain’s story.
Maas herself mentioned during an Instagram Live that she believed it was quite clear who the fifth book centers around, which suggests that fans might be moving in the correct direction.
