Adam Scott’s vacation is not going according to plan.
Scott will be the lead actor in the new horror movie, Hokum, which is written and directed by Damian McCarthy. McCarthy previously directed and wrote Caveat (2020) and Oddity (2024), also editing Caveat himself. Hokum is his largest project to date and will be distributed by Neon, a company known for its work in the horror genre.
Neon has just unveiled the first official trailer for their upcoming film, Hokum, which will premiere at SXSW in 2026. You can watch it below.
The film Hokum features Scott as Ohm Bauman, a writer who travels to Ireland to scatter his parents’ ashes. He revisits the hotel where his parents honeymooned, unaware that his room holds dark secrets. The cast also includes Peter Coonan, David Wilmot, and Austin Amelio.
The trailer for Hokum doesn’t reveal much about the story, but it’s full of unsettling imagery. We see quick shots of Ohm going back to Ireland and clues about his link to the hotel he’s visiting. It quickly becomes obvious that the hotel is strange, and, predictably, the author starts to investigate, which leads to some genuinely frightening scenes.
The movie Hokum will debut at the SXSW Film Festival on March 14th, and will be available for everyone to see on May 1st.
