A new period drama called ‘Outrageous,’ focusing on the famously unconventional Mitford sisters, will be available on BBC iPlayer this week.
The show originally launched on U and U&DRAMA in June, and now the BBC has announced that all episodes will be available to stream on their platform starting Thursday, December 4th.
Inspired by Mary S Lovell’s popular biography, this series tells the story of the Mitford sisters – Nancy, Pamela, Diana, Unity, Jessica, and Deborah. It explores how their shocking actions and controversial political views made them famous – and infamous – during the 1930s.
What I really love about this series is how it manages to show both the difficult and happy sides of the Mitfords’ lives. It never forgets that, at the heart of it all, they were just a family – a real one, with all the complexities that come with that.

The play ‘Outrageous’ features a talented cast including Zoe Brough as Jessica Mitford, Shannon Watson as Unity Mitford, Orla Hill as Deborah Mitford, Joanna Vanderham as Diana Mitford, and Isobel Jesper Jones as Pamela Mitford, alongside Carter.
Let me tell you, the cast they assembled for this is fantastic! James Purefoy plays Farve, and Anna Chancellor is brilliant as Muv. You’ll also recognize Toby Regbo as Tom Mitford, and Joshua Sasse steps into the role of Oswald Mosley. Jamie Blackley plays Peter Rodd, with James Musgrave as Hamish Erskine, Calam Lynch as Bryan Guinness, and Will Attenborough rounding things out as Joss. It’s a really strong ensemble!
She added that she hopes the film encourages people to think about female empowerment and the importance of family. She wants it to spark open conversations, suggesting that even when people disagree or go their separate ways, communication is key instead of avoidance.
