Adolescence’s Owen Cooper Reacts to History-Making Emmy Win

Owen Cooper‘s adolescence is forever changed after the 2025 Emmys.

Following his win for Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie at the Emmys on September 14th for his role in the Netflix series *Adolescence*, the actor spoke about the historic night. You can find a complete list of the 2025 Emmy winners and photos from the red carpet elsewhere.

The 15-year-old Emmy winner, speaking to reporters after the ceremony at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater, said he was incredibly grateful for the support of his family and friends back home.

Back then, the British actor’s friends back home probably didn’t even know he’d won the award.

Ugh, it’s probably the middle of the night for my idols right now – like, 4 AM! But oh my gosh, when they find out… they’re going to be *so* happy! I seriously can’t wait to tell them, it’s going to be the best moment ever!

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! Just before the Emmys, Owen actually MET Jake Gyllenhaal! Jake was nominated for his amazing performance in *Presumed Innocent*, and Owen got to meet HIM! I’m still screaming, honestly. It was such a huge moment for him, and I’m so incredibly happy he got to meet one of his idols.

The young fan wrote on Instagram, just hours before the Emmys, how honored and lucky he was to meet actor Jake Gyllenhaal – someone he’d mentioned on *Jimmy Kimmel Live!* just three days prior that he hoped to connect with. He added he’d never forget the experience, tagging Gyllenhaal in the post.

Jake responded, “The honor was mine man. Good luck tonight!!!!”

British actor Thomas Doherty won an Emmy Award for his role in the miniseries *Adolescence*. He beat out his co-star Ashley Walters, and other nominees including Javier Bardem (*Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story*), Bill Camp and Peter Sarsgaard (*Presumed Innocent*), and Rob Delaney (*Dying for Sex*).

At age 15, Owen almost became the youngest Emmy winner ever, but Roxana Zal won the award a year earlier. At just 14 years old, Zal received an Emmy in 1984 for her supporting role in *Something About Amelia*.

The show *Adolescence* received eight Emmy Awards at the 2025 ceremony. Key wins included Stephen Graham for Outstanding Lead Actor, Erin Doherty for Outstanding Supporting Actress, and the award for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
