AEW’s Will Ospreay Stepping Away Due to Serious Injury

At All In, there was a significant change in power dynamics within AEW. Not only were The Young Bucks deprived of their Executive Vice President roles, but Jon Moxley and his Death Riders lost their grip at long last to Adam Hangman Page. While Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland played crucial roles in Page’s ultimate victory over Moxley, tonight AEW spectators discovered that Ospreay must temporarily halt his in-ring activities due to ongoing problems that were worsened by assaults from the Death Riders.

Tonight on AEW Dynamite, Will Ospreay spoke openly about his ongoing neck problems which he’s been battling for nearly a year. He admitted that he hadn’t disclosed these issues to AEW or medical personnel earlier, as he wanted to see the final leg of All In through before seeking treatment.

At All In Texas, @WillOspreay discloses a health update following an attack by The Death Riders.

For approximately ten months, I’ve been dealing with a persistent neck problem, which has given me some trouble. Normally, when our medical team hears about an injury, they spring into action to ensure our safety. However, in this case, I haven’t shared my issue with anyone. I kept it hidden, and looking back, I realize I shouldn’t have done that. I should have reached out to the medical staff, referees, and even my fellow wrestlers. But, I just…I felt compelled to push through and get us across the finish line.

In his own words, Ospreay stated, “I’ve given many pledges – to Swerve, to Hangman, and most crucially, to each of you all. I vowed to help us regain the World Championship. Although the cost was high, I can now say with pride that we have reclaimed that title.

Later, Ospreay provided some additional information about his injury, which is quite severe as it involves his neck and spinal region. However, he shared that he’s had discussions with doctors and is optimistic about making a return by the time of Forbidden Door.

Well, here’s what happened. When the Death Riders attacked me, I ended up in the emergency room. There, they found two herniated discs in my C2 and C6 vertebrae that have pressed onto my spinal cord. Despite how serious that sounds, all the doctors I’ve consulted say it can be treated. With proper care, physical therapy, supportive people, especially with AEW’s help, I hope to make a recovery and return for Forbidden Door.

Before I depart, there are three points I’d like to make. Firstly, Swerve, I adore you like a brother, thank you immensely for everything you’ve accomplished. It was a privilege to fight alongside Hangman Page, and I am honored to be able to call you the World Champion. However, I yearn for a rematch. Secondly, to the Death Riders, when I regain my strength and health, remember where I come from – it’s an ‘eye for an eye’. So, brace yourselves because retribution is on its way.

Wishing Ospreay a swift recovery and top health! It’d be fantastic to have him back at Forbidden Door, but what truly matters is his well-being above everything else.
