A key element that made the movie stand out – and a first for the character after 24 years – is now being built upon in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
Deadpool & Wolverine Marked A First For The X-Men Franchise
In the 2000 X-Men movie, James Marsden, playing Cyclops, playfully teases Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine about the team’s black leather costumes. When asked about the suits, Cyclops quips, “What would you prefer, yellow spandex?” He was clearly referencing the X-Men’s famous yellow and spandex costumes from the comic books, which studio executives thought wouldn’t look right in a more realistic movie.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been focusing on faithfully recreating comic book costumes, and the recent film Deadpool & Wolverine finally gave Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine the chance to wear Logan’s famous yellow and blue X-Men suit after over 20 years. The movie also featured different versions of Wolverine from across the multiverse sporting other classic looks.

The latest trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, currently showing in theaters alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash, features the return of familiar faces like Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), and Cyclops (James Marsden).
The trailer for Avengers: Doomsday gives fans a first look at the X-Men’s costumes, including James Marsden as Cyclops in his iconic blue and yellow suit from the Marvel comics. This is a big deal for the series, as the outfit is a long-requested and recognizable look, and Cyclops hasn’t been featured prominently enough in past X-Men films.
