A beloved fantasy anime series is getting a fresh start with a complete reboot after 31 years! A new trailer has just been released, giving fans a sneak peek at the show’s premiere in Fall 2026. It’s an exciting time for fans of this genre, with both new shows and returning favorites appearing throughout the year. This classic franchise is definitely one to watch with its brand new take on the story.

The classic anime Magic Knight Rayearth, a hugely popular pioneer of the ‘isekai’ genre, is getting a complete remake! It’s been 31 years since the original, and this reboot is a celebration of the series’ 30th anniversary. A new trailer and poster revealed at AnimeJapan 2026 confirmed the new version will premiere in October. You can watch the trailer below.

Magic Knight Rayearth Reboot Anime Confirms October 2026 Release

The reboot of Magic Knight Rayearth is scheduled to premiere in Japan during the Fall 2026 anime season. While a specific release date hasn’t been revealed yet, and international streaming details are still to come, we now know who’s working on it. Yui Miura will direct the anime at E&H Production (known for Ninja Kamui and Bullet/Bullet), with Kadokawa and TMS Entertainment handling overall production.

The upcoming reboot of Magic Knight Rayearth has assembled a talented creative team. Shigeru Murakoshi is writing the scripts, Satomi Watabe is designing the characters, and the music will be composed by Yuki Kajiura, Takumi Ozawa, and Shiho Terada. The main characters will be voiced by Ayane Sakura as Hikaru Shido, Rumi Okubo as Umi Ryuzaki, and Rie Takahashi as Fu Hooji. This new version promises to bring CLAMP’s iconic art style to a fresh audience, reigniting the popularity of this classic isekai series.

What Is Magic Knight Rayearth About?

I remember watching Magic Knight Rayearth as a kid, and it feels like one of the earliest examples of what we now call ‘Isekai’ anime – stories about being transported to another world. It centers around three girls who suddenly find themselves in a fantasy realm with the mission of saving a princess. What really stood out to me was that they did this by piloting huge mechs! The original anime series was quite long, running for over 50 episodes over two years, and I always noticed a shift in the overall feel between the first and second half of the show.

I recently revisited the classic Magic Knight Rayearth anime on Netflix, and it’s easy to see why it’s remained so popular over the years. What surprised me most was how surprisingly dark the story became – it’s a big part of why the creators, the legendary manga group CLAMP (known for series like Cardcaptor Sakura and xxxHolic), still have such a dedicated fanbase after all this time.
