After a Rocky Launch, the Entire Team Behind PS5 Racer Wreckreation Might Be Laid Off

I was really bummed to read a statement from Three Fields Entertainment, the team that made Wreckreation for THQ Nordic. It didn’t sound good at all – they’re hinting that things aren’t looking bright for their future. It’s a shame, because I’ve really enjoyed their work!

The game, a fast-paced racing experience set in an open world where players can create and customize, initially faced some problems. Even with quick improvements and new features, the company that made it may now have to shut down.

Three Fields studio head Fiona Sperry released a statement on the game’s official social media pages addressing the current situation.

After twelve years of building Three Fields Entertainment, I unfortunately have to announce that we are making the entire team redundant.

Simply put, the studio hasn’t made any money yet, so it’s been paying for development and ongoing support out of its own pocket. This isn’t sustainable in the long run.

As a small, independent studio, we aren’t currently making money from game sales and have been paying for everything ourselves, including all updates after the game launched. Without continued support from our publisher – both in terms of excitement for the project and financial backing – we can’t keep the studio running as it is. This was a very difficult decision to make.

The announcement continued by detailing planned updates and features for after the game’s release. The team even showcased some of these ideas in a video, hoping to secure funding.

The game adds a unique take on Crash Mode called Wreckreation, letting you build elaborate chain reactions using in-game objects to maximize destruction.

I’m so excited about what Three Fields is planning! They’re adding buildings you can actually use to create cities, and even new vehicles like helicopters! Plus, they’re giving the heads-up display and map a complete overhaul. It sounds like a massive update, and I can’t wait to see it all!

The game has been updated today to allow players on different devices to play together, and includes several improvements that players asked for.

It’s a big shame to see the developer struggling, and we wish anybody affected all the best.
