After Cassie Claimed Diddy Wouldn’t Change His Ways Amid Incarceration, His Attorney Responded

Sean “Diddy” Combs recently received a four-year prison sentence related to prostitution charges. Following the judge’s decision, several people have publicly reacted, including Cassie Ventura, Diddy’s former partner. Ventura, through her lawyers, stated she doesn’t believe Diddy will change, and now one of Diddy’s attorneys is responding to her statement.

Singer Cassie Ventura, known simply as Cassie, was in a tumultuous relationship with Sean Combs from 2007 to 2018. In late 2023, she sued him alleging domestic violence and sex trafficking, but the case was settled quickly, with Combs’ representatives denying any misconduct. However, in May 2024, video from 2016 surfaced showing Combs physically assaulting Ventura in a hotel, prompting an apology from him that Ventura’s lawyer deemed insufficient.

After Diddy’s arrest in 2024, Cassie shared her experiences in court during his trial, and a letter she wrote was read during his sentencing. According to USA Today, in the letter, Cassie stated she feared that if Diddy were released, he would immediately seek revenge on her and others who testified about his abuse. Although Kim Porter’s mother, Cassie’s ex-husband’s mother, is unsure if Diddy will change, one of his lawyers, Xavier Donaldson, acknowledged her concerns in a CNN interview.

Look, I really respect what Cassie has said, and I wouldn’t dream of questioning her experience. She’s completely entitled to her feelings and how she processes everything. Honestly, she deserves to feel that way. It’s clear she was a victim of domestic violence, and frankly, that’s all anyone is acknowledging – she’s a survivor, and her feelings are valid.

In the same interview, Donaldson also predicted that Combs would recover professionally, though not as a rapper. He believes Combs could still be successful by focusing on charitable work. While acknowledging Cassie’s perspective, Donaldson also felt Combs deserved another opportunity.

Everyone deserves a second chance, and we need to believe in people’s ability to turn things around. It’s unfair to criticize someone no matter what they do – if they try to improve, we shouldn’t dismiss their efforts, and if they don’t, we shouldn’t fault them for inaction. We need to offer support, not judgment.

Sean Combs’ trial concluded in July with a split decision. He was found guilty of helping facilitate prostitution but cleared of more serious charges like sex trafficking and racketeering. The verdict followed weeks of witness testimony presented by prosecutors. Cassie testified for four days, alleging Combs subjected her to abuse and hosted explicit parties known as ‘Freak Offs.’ A former male escort also supported parts of Cassie’s account.

Diddy is still in jail at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, and he’s requesting to be transferred to FCI Fort Dix, though officials have cautioned against it. It remains to be seen if his request will be granted and if he’ll take something positive away from his time in prison. Following the sentencing, Cassie’s lawyer released a statement to ABC News, saying that while nothing can erase the harm Diddy caused, the sentence acknowledges the severity of his crimes.
