After Leaving Netflix, Supernatural Found New Success on PVOD

Although Supernatural left Netflix on December 18th, viewers quickly found another way to watch the show. The very next day, it began appearing on lists of popular movies and shows available for rental and purchase.

Soon after leaving Netflix, Supernatural quickly climbed to sixth place on Apple TV’s U.S. charts. It wasn’t alone – two other shows that had also departed Netflix that day, Riverdale and Arrow, also found a spot on the list, landing in 12th and 15th place respectively.

After 13 years, those shows were removed from the streaming service due to the expiration of its previous agreement with The CW. The original deal gave the streamer exclusive rights to each show for about five years after the final episode aired. Since Supernatural and the other two series had all reached that five-year mark, they are no longer available on the platform.

Fortunately, fans of the popular monster-hunting show won’t have to wait to keep watching! All fifteen seasons moved to Tubi on December 1st, and the series will also be available on Peacock starting December 22nd.

The show Supernatural performed very well on Netflix. Data from Nielsen showed it was among the top 20 most-streamed programs in the first half of 2025, accumulating 11.9 billion minutes of viewing time and ranking at number 15 on the platform.

Supernatural Leads Will Reunite on Creator’s New Hit Show

Eric Kripke, the creator of Supernatural, found success again with the superhero series The Boys on Prime Video. Several actors from Supernatural also appeared in The Boys, including the actor who played Dean Winchester. He first joined the show in Season 3, Episode 2, “The Only Man in the Sky,” and has been in eight episodes so far. He’ll be back as Soldier Boy in Season 5, and will also star in a prequel series called Vought Rising.

Before the release of Vought Rising, Jensen Ackles will team up with his former Supernatural co-stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins on The Boys. While details about their roles are scarce, Padalecki has already been revealed as a cast member.

Fans of Supernatural have reason to be excited about a possible reunion! Stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki hinted at the Creation Honolulu convention that the story might continue, mentioning they have some ideas. However, there’s been no official announcement yet.

I remember reading an interview with Jared Padalecki back in April 2024, while his show Walker was still on the air (sadly, it got canceled since then). He hinted that he and Jensen Ackles might talk about revisiting Supernatural sometime in 2025. Apparently, towards the end of the show’s run, they’d joked about checking in on Sam and Dean five years after the finale – so in 2025 – to see what they were up to. They haven’t said anything new about a full-on revival, but honestly, seeing them reunite on The Boys is a pretty great treat for fans like me in the meantime!

Good news for fans who miss Supernatural! A new comic book series is available, created by writer Greg Pak, artist Eder Messias, colorist Thyago Brandao, and letterer Jeff Eckleberry. This new story takes place before the end of the show’s first season and follows Sam and Dean on a fresh set of adventures.

You can watch Supernatural on Prime Video, and it’s also available for rent or purchase on most digital platforms.
