Following recent news that Anne Hathaway turned down a villain role in the planned Spider-Man 4 movie, sources say she’s now being considered for a significant role in the next phase of Marvel Cinematic Universe films – Phase 7.
Anne Hathaway could appear in Marvel’s Mutant Saga
According to a post by reliable source MyTimeToShineHello on X (formerly Twitter), Anne Hathaway was previously offered a part in Spider-Man: Brand New Day but turned it down. Now, she’s reportedly being considered for a significant role in the next major storyline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This news arrives as Marvel Studios gets ready to begin its new focus on mutants after the ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ movie in 2027. Although Marvel hasn’t announced any actors yet, rumors suggest Anne Hathaway is being considered for a significant part in the upcoming X-Men stories.
Anne Hathaway was considered for a villain role in the planned Spider-Man 4, but she turned it down. Film industry source Jeff Sneider reports that both Hathaway and Sarah Snook were in talks for the part.
According to Sneider, there were reliable reports that Anne Hathaway and Sarah Snook were both considered for a role, but ultimately didn’t get it. The initial idea for the character was an older female villain, but after those actresses weren’t available, the script may have been changed. The part was likely reduced in size, and they ended up casting an older man instead.
I’m so excited about what Marvel’s planning with the X-Men! From what I’ve heard, they’re building a whole saga around the mutants, and it sounds like it’s going to really focus on Cyclops and his family. We’ll definitely see characters like Jean Grey and his brothers, Havok and Vulcan, which is amazing! Hopefully, we’ll also get to see some of the classic villains, like Mister Sinister, make an appearance eventually. It’s going to be epic!
Marvel hasn’t officially responded to the rumors, and plans are still being worked out. Now that Jake Schreier, who’s directing Thunderbolts*, is also set to direct an X-Men movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we can expect official news about Phase 7 of the MCU soon.
