The first four episodes of Stranger Things Season 5 will be released on November 26th. After revisiting previous seasons, I’m even more certain a popular fan theory is correct. This final season of Stranger Things will wrap up the story, showing what happens to the town of Hawkins, Indiana, and the characters who have bravely defended it. Fans have been speculating about who might die and how Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) will ultimately be stopped.
As a huge fan, I’ve been completely sucked into all the hype for Stranger Things Season 5! The trailer and recent interviews definitely got me even more excited, and then the episode titles dropped, and everyone started buzzing with theories. That title, “The Vanishing of [Redacted],” is particularly chilling – it screams a major character is going to disappear, but we have no clue who! But after revisiting the whole series, I’m starting to think it’s Holly Wheeler who’s in danger. It just feels like Vecna is going to target her, giving Eleven and the gang another person to fight to save. I’m really worried for Holly!
After Rewatching Stranger Things, I’m Convinced Holly Wheeler Will Be Taken In Season 5

The character of Holly Wheeler will be played by a new actress in the fifth season of Stranger Things. This change is due to Holly, Mike and Nancy’s sister, having a much larger role to play. According to a report from Time after a set visit, Holly appears in a scene that seems to be a hallucination and is connected to the The First Shadow play about Vecna’s origins. The Duffer Brothers have also confirmed to SFX (via GamesRadar+) that Holly will be a central character this season, suggesting significant developments for her storyline.
New footage from Netflix strongly suggests that Vecna will target Mike and Nancy’s family in the fifth season of Stranger Things. The trailer shows Karen and Holly terrified and hiding in their bathtub while a Demogorgon looms over them, making this seem highly probable. Some viewers believe Episode 2’s title refers to Holly, and a closer look at previous episodes reveals moments hinting at a connection between her and the Upside Down. Season 5 may simply be bringing those connections to light.
Stranger Things Has Been Dropping Hints About Holly’s Connection To Vecna All Along

While some Stranger Things fans might be surprised by how important Mike and Nancy’s sister, Holly, becomes in Season 5, the show has actually been subtly hinting at her connection to the Upside Down from the very beginning. After rewatching the first four seasons, I’m convinced Holly will have a significant role – and that she must be connected to the Upside Down in some way. Several scenes seem to suggest this, and there’s little narrative reason for them unless the Duffer Brothers are planning a major reveal involving her.
In the third episode of Stranger Things Season 1, Holly notices strange things happening at the Byers’ house – like the lights flickering and a creature inside Joyce’s wall – but her mother, Karen, doesn’t seem to notice anything unusual. It’s notable that the show dedicates a whole scene to Holly observing these details, considering she has limited screen time. The episode’s title, “Holly Jolly,” likely emphasizes her role as someone who sees what others miss.
In Season 3 of Stranger Things, Holly observes unusual movement in the trees as the Mind Flayer travels through the forest, while everyone else is focused on the fireworks display. Later, in Season 4, she plays with a Lite-Brite toy that her brother and his friends eventually use to communicate with the Upside Down. Because the Lite-Brite seems to connect different dimensions, it’s possible Vecna is already communicating with Holly through the toy. If Holly ends up in the Upside Down in Season 5, this could be a surprising plot twist.
Why Holly’s Disappearance Makes Sense For Stranger Things’ Final Season

Okay, so I’ve been rewatching Stranger Things and putting the pieces together, and I’m pretty sure Holly is going to be the one who disappears in Season 5. It just fits the story so well. Think about it – bringing things full circle with another rescue mission into the Upside Down feels right, especially since the Duffer brothers said the final season will have a similar vibe to the first. Plus, I have a feeling losing Holly could finally force Will to deal with everything he’s been through, and maybe even get him some much-needed closure.
Holly’s disappearance will likely raise the tension for characters like Mike and Nancy, and it will finally involve their mother, Karen, more directly. The show has hinted at Karen’s importance in earlier seasons, and this will explain that focus. Importantly, it will also give Holly a meaningful role in the story. Every other sibling we’ve met – like Billy and Erica – has played a part, but Holly hasn’t yet. Season 5 of Stranger Things appears ready to change that and give her a purpose.
