*Warning: Contains major spoilers for After the Flood season 2.*
Similar to the first season’s finale, the conclusion of After the Flood season 2 feels conclusive, but doesn’t entirely rule out the possibility of future episodes.
The cases of Xav Palmer and Todd Drake’s murders were closed, and the person who contaminated Waterside’s river was finally identified.
Jo’s life fell apart when Mackie killed Pat unexpectedly, leaving her heartbroken and completely changing what the future held for After the Flood if it ever came back.
At least there’s a sense of justice now that Mackie has been arrested. With forensic evidence and the tracking device Pat secretly installed on his car, he’s likely to be convicted. Meanwhile, Jill Halfpenny’s character, DS Sam Bradley – who we now know is working to fight corruption – will definitely investigate Mackie given the serious accusations against him.
Pat had finally found Saskia Bale, a young woman who had lived with Mackie and was later used in his crimes. Her account of what happened could be the key to bringing Mackie’s schemes to light.
But will viewers get a front-row seat to what happens next?

“And I do think it’s sort of left–you always want to see what happens next.”
As a critic, I’ve been following the buzz around this show, and honestly, the audience reaction is just as important to me as what other reviewers are saying. Rundle highlighted the overwhelmingly positive reception and feedback, and I completely agree – a show needs to connect with viewers to truly succeed.
You know, it’s funny. You can be in a film that critics adore, but if nobody actually watches it, what does that acclaim really mean? The best feeling isn’t the awards buzz, it’s those everyday moments – being at the grocery store and having someone genuinely tell you how much they enjoyed your work. That happened to me with ‘After the Flood,’ and honestly, that connection with the audience is far more rewarding than any critical praise.
Honestly, I just really love being part of these projects. It’s incredibly rewarding when you see people enjoying what you do, and it makes you want to keep creating more. If the fans are still interested, that’s all the encouragement we need to continue!
