A star from the popular TV series, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” has addressed their lack of involvement in the upcoming Marvel project, “Secret Invasion.” In a recent interview, they discussed the show’s ambiguous status within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and shared reasons behind their character’s exclusion from the Disney+ series.
Agents of Shield’s Chloe Bennet says she should’ve been in Secret Invasion
Chloe Bennet, the actress who played Daisy Johnson (also known as Quake) in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., made it clear that she wasn’t joking when she said, “I truly have no information; they haven’t shared anything with me yet. If they do, you know my reputation – I can’t keep secrets, so I would gladly share it with you all.
As a dedicated fan, I’ve often found myself reflecting on the intricate Marvel Cinematic Universe. And while Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a series I hold dear, might not always be considered part of the official canon, it certainly adds a captivating layer to the overall narrative. If I may say so myself, it would have been thrilling to be a part of Secret Invasion, but alas, my character didn’t make an appearance. I can’t help but feel that being there might have elevated the storyline even further.
The ongoing discussions reflect the uncertainty surrounding whether Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which first aired in 2013, truly belongs to the Marvel Cinematic Universe due to its direct connections to The Avengers (2012).
Initially, figures like Nick Fury and Maria Hill were featured in the early seasons, mirroring happenings from Marvel movies. However, as time progressed, particularly during the Disney+ period when Marvel Studios reorganized their TV ventures, this connection became less pronounced.
Fans have long wondered if Brett would return to her role in Secret Invasion due to Quake’s connections to the comic book plot. Yet, Brett herself clarified that she was never contacted regarding a reprise. She added humorously, “I believe the show might unexpectedly resurface. Perhaps it’ll find a new platform or something like that. But for now, there’s no confirmation.
The discussion about whether certain works should be considered part of the official Marvel Universe (MCU) continuity has lingered beyond Bennet’s comments. In 2024, Marvel Television director Brad Winderbaum proposed that linking ABC’s Marvel shows to the MCU was still a possibility on the table. Previously, co-star Ming-Na Wen described these series as having evolved into something distinct.
In late 2024, despite the uncertainties, Bennett expressed, “I believe my time as Daisy may not be over yet… I’d welcome the chance to portray Daisy as a fully-grown character.” (paraphrased from ComicBook)
