Disney+’s hit and thrilling Star Wars series, Ahsoka, introduced numerous beloved characters into live-action. The first season concluded in 2023, promptly followed by a renewal. Regrettably, the show creators remained silent about the second season for over a year. Excitingly, production began at the end of April 2025, and Ahsoka‘s creator Dave Filoni unveiled some details regarding the upcoming season during the Star Wars Celebration event.
As a devoted Star Wars fan, I can’t help but share my excitement after attending the much-anticipated unveiling of “Ahsoka”. The event confirmed that several beloved characters from the series will grace our screens again in Season 1, and there’s even more delightful news – we’ll be meeting some fresh faces too!
Mastermind Dave Filoni also tantalized us with a sneak peek at the intriguing plotline for the second season. This new story arc doesn’t revolve around Ahsoka’s journey through the World Between Worlds, but it’s sure to keep us hooked!
Alas, no specific release date has been announced yet, but I’m keeping my lightsaber-ready fingers crossed for updates soon. In the meantime, let’s savor every morsel of information we’ve gleaned so far!
Mostly the Same Cast
It appears that the majority of the cast from Ahsoka’s show will come back for Season 2. Rosario Dawson will reprise her role as Ahsoka Tano. Characters from Star Wars: Rebels are also expected to make a return, including Sabine Wren (played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi), and their droid Chopper. Additionally, concept art suggests that the Jedi droid Huyang, portrayed by David Tennant, will be back in Season 2 as well.
The majority of the villains from Season 1 are expected to reappear in Season 2 of Ahsoka. Lars Mikkelsen takes on the role of Grand Admiral Thrawn once more, guiding the Empire’s strategies. Captain Enoch, portrayed by Wes Chatham and sporting gold-plated armor as a stormtrooper, will also be present. The antagonist Baylan Skoll, who was a prominent figure in Season 1, will now be played by Rory McCann from Game of Thrones. Originally played by Ray Stevenson, Skoll’s role was recast following the actor’s passing. Shin Hati, Skoll’s apprentice, will also feature in Season 2, portrayed by Ivanna Sakhno.
In the upcoming Season 2 of “Star Wars”, several beloved characters from its rich history will make appearances. At Star Wars Celebration, it was revealed that Hayden Christensen would reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker. During the first season of “Ahsoka”, Anakin made appearances as a force spirit, offering guidance to his former apprentice, Ahsoka. In his announcement, Christensen hinted at keeping the specifics of his role in Season 2 under wraps.
Zeb Orrellios (portrayed by Steve Blum) wasn’t present during Season 1 of Ahsoka, although his Rebels companions were there. Instead, Zeb was engaged in a meeting with other Rebels on The Mandalorian, but he’s set to join the cast for Season 2. Moreover, Filoni has revealed that Admiral Ackbar, a beloved character from the original trilogy, will have a significant role in Season 2. He mentioned, “[A]dmirable as he is, he’ll go toe-to-toe with Thrawn. They’ll give each other a run for their money.”
Season 2 Will Focus on the Mortis Gods
In Season 1 of Ahsoka, characters got close to a mystical entity known as the Mortis deities. Baylan Skoll ventured towards a landmark honoring these deities on Peridea. Interestingly, Baylan Skoll was unaware that Ahsoka, Sabine, and Shin Hati were also present on the same planet. It’s expected that Season 2 will depict Baylan Skoll searching for the World Between Worlds, a realm intertwined with the Mortis deities. There’s a possibility that Ahsoka, Sabine, and Shin Hati could cross paths with him on Peridea as he unearths more secrets about the Mortis deities.
In the series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” the trio of divine beings known as the Mortis gods made their debut. These three force-users were the Father, the Daughter, and the Son. The Daughter embodied the light side of the Force, while the Son symbolized the dark side. When they learned that Anakin Skywalker, who was referred to as “the chosen one,” had arrived on their planet, Mortis, they manipulated events to lure him there. Upon his arrival, the Son attempted to corrupt Anakin and ultimately killed Ahsoka, Anakin’s apprentice. However, the Daughter brought Ahsoka back to life, but at the cost of her own life. In another episode, due to their interconnected powers, the Father ended up taking his own life, which in turn led to the death of the Son as well.
In Star Wars: Rebels, the Mortis gods were portrayed within a painting. Ezra Bridger, with his Force abilities and the mystical painting, found a pathway known as the World Between Worlds. This unique realm enabled him to traverse time, rescuing Ahsoka from her imminent demise during a duel against Darth Vader. Later on in the series Ahsoka, she once more ventured into the World Between Worlds upon meeting Anakin. It is speculated that Baylan Skoll seeks out the World Between Worlds, hoping to encounter someone who holds secrets from his enigmatic past.
In the finale of Season 1 of Ahsoka, there appears to be another connection between Morai, an owl-like creature met on Peridea, the Mortis gods, and the World Between Worlds. This connection might prove crucial for Season 2. While interacting with Morai, Ahsoka established a bond, as Morai was associated with the Daughter and even helped revive Ahsoka. Moreover, Morai was present during Ezra’s rescue of Ahsoka in the World Between Worlds. It seems that Morai harbors a significant secret essential for the storyline of Season 2.
‘Ahsoka’ Is Bringing Big Space Battles Back
In the intricate universe of “Star Wars”, the addition of the “Ahsoka” series has added complexity to the storyline, but there are plenty of reasons to anticipate Season 2. The franchise is venturing away from large-scale galactic conflicts with shows like “The Mandalorian”, yet creator Dave Filoni is eager to reintroduce such action in the form of a major battle. During Star Wars Celebration, Filoni discussed his plans for Season 2, stating, “Approximately half of it will feature a massive battle. There will be war within our “Star Wars”, a full-scale confrontation on a scale that I can best deliver.” Filoni suggested that Thrawn would play a significant role in this battle, potentially offering more screen time for characters from “Rebels” such as Ezra, Hera, and Chopper. Given Filoni’s comments about Admiral Ackbar, it seems plausible that he may be involved in the battle as well.
It’s invigorating to learn about Filoni’s plans for Ahsoka Season 2. Unlike the franchise’s initial focus on grand space battles, some fans found learning too much about the Jedi and the Force tedious. However, with fan favorites like Hera, Ezra, Zeb, Chopper, Thrawn, and Admiral Ackbar set to make more appearances in Season 2 of Ahsoka, anticipation is high. As filming for Ahsoka didn’t start until the end of April 2025, details are still scarce. However, we can look forward to approximately eight episodes in the season and further updates as production concludes later this year.
