AJ McLean Shares Update on Marriage Nearly 2 Years After Breakup

For AJ McLean, his estranged wife Rochelle McLean is still the one.

Okay, so it’s been two years since AJ McLean and Rochelle DeAnna Karidis said they were separating – seriously, still hurts to think about it! – but he finally talked about how things are going now that they’re co-parenting Elliott and Lyric, their amazing daughters who are 13 and 8. And honestly? It sounds like there’s still something there. Like, they’re still connected, you know? It’s… hopeful, and I’m living for it!

AJ recently told Us Weekly that while he and his partner aren’t officially back together, their relationship is stronger than ever. He described a deep love between them, noting they’ve overcome significant challenges. He admitted he’s put her through a lot, and he’s amazed she’s still with him, suggesting she’s either incredibly devoted, a little bit crazy, or a combination of both.

AJ says they and their spouse—who will celebrate 14 years of marriage in December—are currently focused on discussing their future. They’re working together to decide what happens next, but are confident they’re both on the same page and moving forward positively.

Regarding where things stand now, McLean said they’re discussing future plans and figuring out what happens next. However, she confirmed they’re all in agreement and progressing positively.

They’re also making family a top priority. The 47-year-old stressed that they still want to try and make things work, but even if that doesn’t happen, they’ve reached a good place where they can happily coexist and, most importantly, focus on their children’s well-being, safety, and care.

Despite announcing their plans to divorce in January 2024 after a year apart, he and Rochelle continue to spend time together and are even affectionate in public, which bothers their children.

McLean explained that her kids still don’t like seeing her kiss her partner. They’re at an age where displays of affection embarrass them – even on screen! She said they react with disgust, saying ‘Ew, gross!’ So, she playfully kisses her partner and says, ‘Mommy, give me a kiss!’ just to get a reaction. Her kids then protest, saying ‘Oh, come on, Dad!’ and she responds by saying she loves her partner and will kiss her anyway, telling them to leave her alone.

Okay, so things were really tough for them at first, figuring out life apart and then trying to make it work. They actually tried couples therapy, which I was SO hoping would fix everything, but AJ said it just…didn’t click. It didn’t stick, he said. I remember reading back in late 2023 that they were both in therapy – separately, even while living apart – and honestly, it broke my heart, but at least they were trying, you know? I just wanted them to be happy!

He shared on Cheryl Burke’s podcast, Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans, that they talk daily and are increasingly spending time together. He explained they’re working to create a foundation that didn’t exist in their relationship originally.

He went on to say that the time they spent separated allowed them to grow as individuals, truly understand each other, and really listen to one another.
