Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler Finally Gets His Comic-Accurate Costume in Avengers: Doomsday Art

Back in March, Marvel Studios announced that Alan Cumming will reprise his role as Nightcrawler in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film. Fans are hopeful this return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe will finally give the character a costume that matches his comic book appearance. When 20th Century Fox produced the X-Men films, they often avoided faithfully recreating the characters’ costumes from the Marvel Comics. As a result, popular heroes like Cyclops, Wolverine, Jean Grey, and Storm never wore their iconic suits. Cumming first played Kurt Wagner’s Nightcrawler in the 2003 film X2: X-Men United, but even then, his costume wasn’t true to the comic book design.

In a surprising announcement at the end of March 2025, Marvel confirmed Alan Cumming will reprise his role as Nightcrawler in *Avengers: Doomsday*. Fans will be excited to see Alan Cumming’s version of the character wear a suit that closely matches the comic book design in *Avengers: Doomsday*. He won’t be the only one getting an updated look, though – other actors returning from the *X-Men* movies are also expected to have new costumes.
