Alan Ritchson’s Playdate is Losing Steam on Streaming

Alan Ritchson’s new film, which was popular on Prime Video, is now seeing a decline in viewers. The action comedy, called Playdate and released in November 2025, features Ritchson and Kevin James as an unlikely duo.

Originally released on Prime Video in mid-November 2025, the movie Playdate has since moved out of the top 10 most-watched films globally. Currently, it’s ranked 14th worldwide on Prime Video and 10th in the United States, according to FlixPatrol. The film stars Kaley Ritchson as Jeff and James as Brian, and tells the story of Brian navigating the challenges of becoming a stepfather.

The movie stars Kaley Ritchson and James Marsden, along with Alan Tudyk, Stephen Root, Sarah Chalke, and Isla Fisher. However, critics haven’t been impressed, giving Playdate a low 23% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Korey Coleman from Double Toasted went even further, calling it “the worst movie of 2025” and noting that the film lacks any truly likable characters.

Over 500 viewers have shared their opinions on Playdate on Rotten Tomatoes, giving the film, directed by Luke Greenfield and written by Neil Goldman, an audience score of 58%. Some viewers weren’t happy with the language used in the movie. One viewer, Rebecca D., commented on Rotten Tomatoes, “The language is really strong – I wouldn’t let children watch it. Why couldn’t the writers keep it clean?” Another viewer, Joe S., said on the site, “I was really disappointed with this movie, especially since I like both of the actors.”

Despite some negative feedback, many viewers enjoyed Playdate. One Rotten Tomatoes reviewer, Shaun R., called it “Funny and silly enough to watch with the family.” Brad G. also shared on the site that both he (age 61) and his 15-year-old daughter found the movie extremely funny and would recommend it.

Ritchson’s Action-Packed Series is Climbing the Charts

Despite recent news, fans of Alan Ritchson have something to look forward to. Before Season 4 even arrives, his action series is already popular on Prime Video. It recently made the top 10, currently holding the No. 10 position in the U.S., according to FlixPatrol. While a specific release date hasn’t been announced, Reacher is expected to return to Prime Video sometime between mid and late 2026.

Playdate is streaming on Prime Video.
