I was so excited when Alex Kingston was announced for Strictly Come Dancing! As a big fan of hers, especially from her fantastic work as River Song in Doctor Who, it was brilliant news. It’s always great to see actors you admire take on new challenges, and I think she’ll be amazing on the dance floor.
This popular character first appeared in 2008 with David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, and quickly became a fan favorite. She continued to be a key part of the show, appearing alongside both Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi during their time as the Doctor.
Given the Doctor Who universe’s fascinating history, could we see some of that time-traveling magic appear on Strictly Come Dancing? Alex Kingston doesn’t have any inside information and will be finding out along with the rest of us if it’s a possibility.
I recently spoke with actress Jayne Kingston, and even with all her TV experience, she confessed she gets seriously nervous about the themed weeks on the show – especially when it comes to musicals and movie night! She actually used the word ‘terrified,’ which really surprised me, but honestly, I get it – those weeks are a whole different beast.
When asked about his concerns, Kingston explained he felt extra pressure because he had to focus on both the dance and portraying a character, and he jokingly added that he definitely didn’t want to be wearing a Teletubby costume!

Unlike other celebrities who are balancing the show with their regular jobs, Kingston has no other commitments and can fully dedicate herself to Strictly.
Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One and iPlayer on Saturday 20th September.
