Serena Williams‘ husband Alexis Ohanian just aced this comeback.
The Reddit cofounder, 42, recently addressed online trolls accusing his wife of bleaching her skin.
Tennis star Serena Williams posted family photos from her sister Venus Williams’ wedding on January 6th. The pictures show Serena standing with her loved ones – Venus in her wedding gown, and Serena’s daughters, 8-year-old Olympia and 2-year-old Adira, both wearing coordinating blue dresses.
The famous athlete shared some photos on social media with a thoughtful message: “Happiness isn’t always loud and obvious—sometimes it’s quiet and gentle. It’s important to appreciate those small, beautiful moments.” They explained they wanted to share this special picture with their followers.
Some people online suggested Serena Williams had used skin-lightening products. After receiving negative comments about her appearance, her husband, Alexis Ohanian, quickly defended her, pointing out that the lighting in the photos was likely the cause of any perceived changes.
When someone accused Alexis of implying Black people are unfamiliar with photography lighting, and suggesting she was promoting skin lightening, Alexis responded by pointing out that lighting can significantly change how photos from the same event appear.
Serena has previously denied accusations of skin bleaching.
In a December 2024 Instagram Live session, the tennis star – who has won 23 Grand Slam titles – responded to accusations that she had intentionally changed her skin tone. This came after she posted a video from a school event with her husband, Alexis, and their two daughters.
Addressing rumors, Serena clarified to her audience during a live broadcast, “I don’t bleach my skin, for anyone who thinks I do.”
She clarified that she was helping out at her daughter’s school play when the video went viral, and she was wearing makeup for the performance when she filmed it in November 2024.
She explained that people often comment on her skin tone, saying things like, ‘She bleached her skin.’ She emphasized that she’s proud to be a dark-skinned Black woman and loves her appearance.
