It’s hard to beat science fiction when it comes to captivating shows on Netflix. Sci-fi draws you in with its imaginative worlds, incredible technology, and thought-provoking ideas, making it easy to get hooked for a long time. What sets it apart from fantasy is that it feels a little more realistic. And one of the best shows to binge-watch on Netflix, and one of the best sci-fi series in recent years, is definitely Alice in Borderland.
I was completely hooked by Alice in Borderland right from the start – the way it played with Alice in Wonderland and those familiar characters was so clever! And it just kept getting better with each episode, always throwing in a new surprise. It’s bittersweet that Netflix confirmed the show ended after three seasons in late 2025, but honestly, that makes it perfect for a full binge-watch. It tells a complete story, and it’s totally captivating from beginning to end.
Alice In Borderland Is Netflix’s Best Original Sci-Fi Series
The Thriller Is A Live-Action Adaptation Of An Iconic Manga
The science fiction thriller begins with Arisu (Kento Yamazaki), a young man who avoids real life by immersing himself in intense video games. His gaming abilities are put to the ultimate test when a meteor strike transports him and his friends to a strange and dangerous place called Borderland. What initially appears to be a simple post-apocalyptic world quickly becomes much more terrifying, as the survivors must compete in deadly games based on playing cards – and losing means certain death.
The deadly games in Alice in Borderland initially grabbed viewers’ attention when the show debuted in 2020, but the series offers much more than just thrills. Each character cleverly represents someone from the classic story of Alice in Wonderland, like a White Rabbit who guides the protagonists and a Mad Hatter who enjoys the resulting mayhem. Beyond the action, Alice in Borderland also makes you think about what people are capable of when fighting for their lives, and how far even good people will go to survive.
Alice In Borderland Is Thrilling From Start To Finish
All Three Seasons Of The Drama Are Action-Packed
The second season of Alice in Borderland improved upon its already impressive first season. Having already shown us the dangerous rules and card-based hierarchy of Borderland, season 2 focuses on Arisu and his partner Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya) as they confront the powerful and sinister figures who control this strange world. Each face card represents a different, terrifying challenge for those trapped in Borderland, ranging from the King of Spades’ brutal hunts to the Queen of Hearts’ disturbing psychological games.
| Villains Of Alice In Borderland | |
|---|---|
| Season | Main Antagonist(s) |
| Season 1 | The Number Cards |
| Season 2 | The Face Cards |
| Season 3 | The Joker |
Season 3 of Alice in Borderland received a much more varied response than the first two seasons. The finale was unpredictable, much like the series’ ultimate villain, the Joker. While the story could have ended after season two, the conclusion of season three was satisfying and resolved lingering questions from the previous season. Even though it sparked debate, Alice in Borderland season 3 ultimately provided a fitting end to the series.
Alice In Borderland Is Definitely Worth The Binge
It’s An Investment That Pays Off In Dividends
If you’re looking for a truly unique show, you should definitely check out Alice in Borderland. However, be prepared to commit – it’s not a show you can easily finish in an evening. With three seasons and 22 episodes, each lasting between 41 and 80 minutes, it’s a longer and more involved watch than many other Netflix series.
Despite any flaws, Alice in Borderland is a truly captivating show and deserves to be more widely recognized. The lasting popularity of survival dramas like Squid Game and The Hunger Games proves audiences love this genre, and Alice in Borderland is just as good. In fact, even when it’s not at its best, it’s still a stronger sci-fi thriller than anything else available on Netflix.
