After a big reveal at the Xbox Partner Showcase, Ben Fisher, the head of design for Alien Deathstorm, shared some additional details in an interview with Xbox Wire. When asked about the game’s story and setting, he remained tight-lipped, not wanting to spoil the surprises the team at Rebellion has planned.
We’re keeping the details under wraps for now – we don’t want to ruin the surprise! But here’s the basic setup: the player is sent to a distant, isolated facility after all communication is lost. Their mission is to figure out why the colony went quiet and attempt to rescue any survivors.
We love exploring big, dramatic events, but what about the world these events happen in? Fisher shared some insights into what shaped the game’s distinctive settings, while still carefully avoiding revealing too much beyond what was already shown in the trailer.
Our game’s visuals are inspired by the older, more practical sci-fi of the 1980s – think buttons and knobs instead of touchscreens. This gives our colony a distinct, robust, and well-used look and feel. We’ve drawn from a wide range of sources, including classic horror and 80s VHS sci-fi, and we believe players will find the resulting world fascinating.
Beyond the game’s overall setting, Fisher shared details about the main character, who shares similarities with Isaac Clarke from Dead Space. This character, known as the Combat Engineer, is a highly skilled first responder trained in search and rescue, fighting, demolitions, and engineering. They play a vital role: when contact is lost with any off-world base or ship, they’re the first to arrive, offering essential support and protection to anyone who has survived. Often arriving well before larger rescue teams, they frequently represent the last hope for distant colonies facing disaster.
He also dropped some interesting hints about the enemies, and it got me really hyped. He said how scary they are really depends on where you are in the colony. He didn’t want to give away too much, but basically, you might feel strong at times, but you should never let your guard down. It sounds like things can go south quickly!
I’m so hyped for this game! From what I’ve seen, you’ll be playing as both the predator and the prey, which sounds absolutely terrifying and amazing. It’s a sci-fi survival horror shooter coming out next year for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it!
