Alien: Earth Creator’s 5-Part Crime Drama With 93% RT Becomes a Global Streaming Sensation 2 Years After Last Episode

FX’s darkly humorous crime drama, created by Noah Hawley (known for Alien: Earth), is quickly gaining popularity with viewers worldwide. You can currently watch the series on HBO Max in many countries.

According to FlixPatrol, the series Fargo is currently popular in over ten countries, especially in Europe, where it’s available on HBO’s streaming service. In the U.S., you can watch it on Hulu. Originally debuting in 2014, Fargo is based on the 1996 film by the Coen Brothers, who also helped produce the show. Each season of this anthology series features new characters and stories, all centered around unsettling murder cases.

Fargo’s Last Season Debuted on FX 3 Years Ago

Wow, it’s hard to believe it’s been over ten years since the first season of Fargo hit FX. Billy Bob Thornton absolutely blew me away as Lorne Malvo, this incredibly unsettling hitman with a dark history. The story kicks off when he ends up in a small Minnesota town after a car accident, and things quickly spiral out of control. It wasn’t just Thornton though; Allison Tolman, Colin Hanks, and Martin Freeman all delivered fantastic performances as a string of murders begins to plague the city. It was a truly gripping start to what became a phenomenal anthology series.

Later seasons of Fargo have attracted impressive casts. Season 2 starred Kirsten Dunst, Patrick Wilson, Jesse Plemons, Jean Smart, and Ted Danson, while Season 3 included Carrie Coon, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Goran Bogdan, and David Thewlis. In 2020, Season 4 featured Chris Rock, Jason Schwartzman, and Jessie Buckley, along with other talented actors.

The latest season of Fargo, which began in November 2023, is completely separate from previous seasons. This season takes place in Minnesota and North Dakota and follows Dot Lyon, an ordinary housewife whose quiet life is disrupted when secrets from her past come to light and she gets into trouble with the law.

Season 5 of Fargo starred Jon Hamm, Jennifer Jason Leigh, David Rysdahl, and Joe Keery from Stranger Things, along with other talented actors. Critics loved the season, with many considering it to be as good as—and often comparing it to—the show’s excellent first two seasons.

Fargo Season 6 May Be On the Way Following Alien: Earth’s Renewal

Despite continued popularity on streaming, fans have been eagerly awaiting news about the future of Fargo. Creator Noah Hawley’s work on Alien: Earth has caused delays, but there’s hope that a new season of the acclaimed FX crime series could be announced soon.

In 2024, FX’s John Landgraf told Variety that the network would like Noah Hawley to write at least two more seasons of a different show before starting work on a potential sixth season of Fargo. They’re hoping he’ll prioritize those seasons first.

With the renewal of Alien: Earth for a second season in November 2025, Noah Hawley should soon be able to shift his focus to Fargo Season 6. While Fargo hasn’t been officially picked up for another season yet, Hawley has said he’s interested in continuing the show’s story.

Noah Hawley’s Fargo is now streaming on HBO Max internationally and on Hulu in the United States.
