In a fresh twist for the Alien franchise, showrunner Noah Hawley is guiding us to unprecedented territories – Earth itself. While previous Alien films skillfully avoided delving too deeply into the enigmas surrounding our home planet, the series titled Alien: Earth can’t follow suit due to its name. However, creators have been gradually offering intriguing new insights for long-term fans: fresh monstrosities to dread, captivating sci-fi theories to mull over, and some long-awaited responses to questions or debates among dedicated Alien enthusiasts that have lingered for decades.
In this episode titled “Observation” from the show Alien: Earth (Episode 4), there’s a casual disclosure of a significant detail from the Alien universe that long-time fans have been eager to learn more about – the names of the five dominant corporations governing Earth.
In the initial showing of “Alien: Earth,” a tantalizing moment occurred when the crew aboard the USCSS Maginot emerged from cryo-sleep for a meal. During this conversation between an older and younger engineer, the elder attempted to educate the younger on Earth’s governing body, which consists of five powerful corporations. However, upon reflection, only three out of the five companies were explicitly mentioned. The dialogue about Prodigy seamlessly transitioned into the introduction of Boy Kavalier (Samuel Blenkin), a remarkably young trillionaire.
Alien: Earth Reveals Which 5 Corporations Rule Earth
In Episode 4, at last, we unveil the complete roster of megacorps who’ve partitioned Earth’s (and outer space’s) territories among themselves.
- Weyland-Yutani – the most famous megacorporation in the Alien franchise, and the company responsible for the xenomorph incidents in almost every film.
- Prodigy – The company that is the main focus of Alien: Earth, and specializes in synthetic android technology. The series begins with Prodigy successfuly creating “hybrids,” which allows human consciousness to exist within a synth body.
- Dynamic – Also name-dropped in Episode 1, but all other details are (currently) unknown.
- Threshhold – Details unknown
- Lynch – Details unknown
As Wendy and her synthetically enhanced companions, known as “Lost Boys,” start to enjoy the perks of their synth bodies, they discover an extraordinary ability: downloading books or educational databases straight into their minds, boosting their intelligence and competencies instantly. Intrigued by the history of the world, they approach Wendy’s brother Joe Hermit (Alex Lawther) for answers. Hermit explains that the previous democratic governments collapsed, leaving a power vacuum which was subsequently filled by five dominant corporations. To prevent any single corporation from gaining too much control, these corporations formed a council and now cooperate to manage affairs collectively.
It’s clear that after only four episodes of the series Alien: Earth, it has become evident that corporations do not always act as amicably as they portray themselves to the public. In particular, Hermit hints at an upcoming gathering of “the five,” signifying a confrontation between Yutani and Boy Kavalier over ownership of alien specimens. However, it remains uncertain if the other unseen megacorporations will significantly impact Alien: Earth. To be honest, even Weyland-Yutani takes a backseat in this show, so it seems unlikely that much screen time and development will be devoted to the other three corporations. Perhaps these companies may come into play in future Alien films or additional seasons of Alien: Earth.
You can stream the series on FX-Hulu.
