The storyline for Alien: Earth revolves around a fundamental concept: a spaceship belonging to Weyland-Yutani, transporting five extremely harmful extraterrestrial species, crash-lands on our planet, Earth. Naturally, the Alien franchise’s iconic creatures, the xenomorphs, were prominently featured in the initial episodes, creating terror and excitement. As we progress into the latter part of the series, though, other fearsome beasts start to take center stage.
In Episode 5, we discovered the Eye Octopus to be quite cunning and also had a glimpse of the lethal swarm of parasitic “Tick” insects. However, Episode 6 introduces a previously unnoticed creature that has been present all along – the main focus of this episode, aptly named “The Fly”.
Alien: Earth’s Fly Monster Explained (Episode 6 Spoilers)
In Episode 6, the audience was taken by surprise regarding the Fly creatures, as prior to this episode, we had only caught a few glimpses of them. These brief appearances occurred during the opening scene on the USCSS Maginot’s cargo hold, and later in shots of the same hold after a crash, or at the Prodigy Neverland lab facility, where the creatures were eventually kept. This subtle placement of the Fly creatures throughout earlier scenes is what left viewers unaware of their impending danger in Episode 6.
In this scenario, it becomes apparent that the creature is unusual when Smee, a member of a hybrid team, prepares to feed metallic items to what appear to be flies as part of his duties. However, when Smee places these objects on a tray, it becomes clear that these are not ordinary flies – they consume metal. The Eye creature, inhabiting a sheep’s body, knocks down the wall and triggers the door to Smee’s captivity, ensuring his fate. Subsequently, one of the Flies descends from its hive, spits a gel onto Smee, causing his android body to melt into liquid, which the Flies then absorb through a long, tubelike structure.
In the sci-fi series Alien: Earth, the alien creature resembling a fly presents a terrifying twist on earthly flies, with an acidic substance used for consuming objects rather than typical biological matter (as depicted in Cronenberg’s The Fly movie). In this universe, extraterrestrial flies may have evolved to consume metallic substances instead of organic ones, posing a significant threat to the hybrid characters – the first and possibly only direct threat we’ve witnessed so far.
The arrival and lethal impact on the main characters hint that this fly could play a pivotal role in shaping the series’ narrative, potentially causing chaos for both humans and machines due to other dangerous creatures lurking within their surroundings.
