A new Alien game, set between the first and second movies, is coming to Xbox this month. The Alien franchise has had a huge impact on popular culture, fundamentally changing how aliens are portrayed in sci-fi. Before Ridley Scott’s film, aliens were often imagined as small, grey or green beings. But his vision created a truly terrifying creature – large, slender, with a unique and frightening design, and incredibly dangerous. This makes for a genuinely scary and challenging experience in a video game.
The *Alien* universe offers a lot of potential for video games, as fans discovered with the terrifying *Alien: Isolation*. Many games have tried to capture the feel of the *Alien* world, some focusing on pure horror like *Isolation*, while others took a more action-packed approach similar to James Cameron’s *Aliens*, such as *Alien: Colonial Marines* and *Alien vs. Predator*. Now, a new game is aiming to strike a balance between these two styles.
Alien: Rogue Incursion Is Coming to Xbox
I was seriously creeped out playing Alien: Rogue Incursion last year in VR – those Xenomorphs are terrifying, but blasting them with the pulse rifle was awesome! It was a hit with VR fans, but it’s not everyone’s setup. Luckily, the developers, Survios, are bringing it to regular screens, so I can play it with my controller or keyboard and mouse soon. And even better, it’s coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S later this month, which means console players like me can finally jump into a brand new Alien story!
Alien: Rogue Incursion takes place between the first two Alien movies, but it tells a brand new story. You don’t need to have seen those films to understand the game (though they’re fantastic, so we recommend them!). You’ll play as Zula Hendricks, a Colonial Marine who’s been part of the Alien universe in comics and novels for almost ten years. She’s investigating a mysterious distress signal on the planet Purdan, which naturally leads to terrifying encounters with the Xenomorphs.
The action game *Alien: Rogue Incursion* will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC starting September 30th for $29.99. This is the first part of a two-part story, and there’s no confirmed release date for *Alien: Rogue Incursion Part 2* yet. It’s also unknown whether the sequel will be released on consoles or VR headsets first. However, it’s good that the developers are making a VR game available to a wider audience.
