The popular science fiction series, Alien and Predator, are experiencing a significant revival, and there’s speculation that they might collaborate again. As FX’s new show, Alien: Earth, gears up for its release on August 12th with an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 91%, one of the highest since the original Aliens (1986) and Alien (1979), creator and showrunner Noah Hawley hinted at the potential for an Alien vs. Predator crossover. These franchises, initially introduced in 1979 and 1987, previously combined on-screen in Alien vs. Predator (2004) and again in Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007). Fans have been eagerly anticipating another encounter between these fictional universes.
Indeed, it seems like Kevin Feige at Marvel has a grand strategy in place, as he oversees the entire narrative as one cohesive storyline. However, Dan Trachtenberg, working on his two Predator projects – the Hulu animated film ‘Predator: Killer of Killers’ and the Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi-starring movie ‘Predator: Badlands,’ scheduled for release in November 2025, is focused on his individual mission. There appears to be a division between the film and TV sides of these projects.
Hawley hasn’t decided to move forward with a new combination of ‘Alien vs. Predator’ just yet, and whether such a crossover happens will depend on the success of the three respective projects. Hawley stated that “first, we need to prove ourselves on television,” implying that only after establishing themselves can they possibly engage in discussions about future collaborations, not necessarily for coordination, but more so to avoid duplication and preserve the franchise’s energy. However, he expressed enthusiasm for seeing that film.
Debuting on FX later this month, the TV series titled “Alien: Earth” is the first in the Alien movie franchise, comprising nine films, with the latest being 2024’s “Alien: Romulus“. This new series unfolds as a prequel, taking place two years before the events of the iconic 1979 sci-fi horror film “Alien“, in an era where Earth is governed by five corporations – Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic and Threshold. Coexisting within this world are cyborgs, synthetics, and humans. The narrative unfolds when a mysterious spaceship crash-lands on Earth, unleashing hazardous alien organisms, forcing a squad of tactical soldiers into a struggle for survival.
The series is shaping up to be among the top-tier additions to the Alien franchise, boasting a Rotten Tomatoes critics score of 91%, based on 44 reviews. Critics have commended the series for its bravery and terror factor, while also acknowledging that it maintains the franchise’s epic quality while carving out its own distinct identity.
The sci-fi series titled “Alien: Earth” features Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, Samuel Blenkin, Essie Davis, and Adarsh Gourav. This intriguing show will make its debut with the first two episodes on both FX and FX on Hulu on August 12th, Tuesday.
