All 10 Episodes of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2, Ranked

I just finished watching Season 2 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End as Winter 2026 ended, and it feels like we’ve wrapped up a lot of smaller stories that have been building throughout the season. This season really stood out as something different; honestly, it’s hard to evaluate each episode on a single scale. For the most part, the series offered a series of self-contained stories, and each one really captured what makes the show special.

This season of Frieren doesn’t significantly advance the overall story as the characters travel through the North, but each episode is well-crafted and enjoyable on its own. While all episodes in Season 2 are strong, a few are particularly memorable.

10) Episode 7 – The Divine Revolte

Season 2 of Frieren divided each episode into two parts, and included a longer story arc lasting three episodes. This arc focused on a demon named Revolte, who was frightening people in a village with his unusual fighting style using a four-armed sword. This episode continues that story, leading up to a final battle with the demon.

Following the last episode, which really put Genau at the heart of things with his quest for revenge, this one dug deeper into his character. I was particularly captivated by the developing relationship between Genau and Stark – it felt like a real highlight. On a lighter note, we also saw the girls continuing their search for the demon, and a sweet moment where Methode petted Frieren really stood out – Fern was clearly a little jealous, which was amusing to watch.

9) Episode 6 – A Demon-Slaying Request

Episode 6 kicked off a short story arc and was a real highlight of the season. It brought back characters from a previous storyline – Methode and Genau – which changed things up and added a new energy. As you’d expect from the start of a new arc, the episode focused on setting up the plot and explaining what the characters plan to do.

The episode effectively kicks off this story arc by introducing Revolte, a uniquely terrifying demon who’s been causing trouble. Combined with the personal connection Genau has to the events, it’s a compelling start. Furthermore, the individual scenes within the episode are exceptionally well-done and stand out from the rest.

8) Episode 9 – Himmel’s Memoirs

Okay, so the second-to-last episode of the season was really interesting! It was split into two parts. The first part was basically a classic dragon hunt – nothing super groundbreaking in terms of the story itself, just a ton of dragons for the party to take down. But honestly, the animation studio, Madhouse, really made it shine, and the party got a nice reward for their efforts. Then, the second half hit a bit of a snag with some heavy snow, slowing everything down. Once they got moving again, they picked up a quick side quest from a ferry owner – a small job to help him out.

The real treat in this release is Himmel’s personal memoirs, though they’re more like everyday journal entries than a grand story. Overall, Episode 9 is a solid addition to the series, capturing its core spirit.

7) Episode 3 – Somewhere She’d Like

The third episode continued the group’s journey near the northern border, but it was special because it really focused on Stark. The second half of the episode was also one of the funniest so far. We saw Stark and his companions work incredibly hard to reach a hot spring, only to discover they could only soak their feet. This emphasized how determined Stark was to fulfill his promise to Eisen and get to that hot spring.

The second half of the episode showed the group settling in a town. A playful moment occurred when Stark jokingly asked Fern on a date to cheer her up, and ended up spending the entire day getting ready with Frieren’s help. It was a well-balanced episode, managing to be both thoughtful and humorous – truly capturing what makes this series special.

6) Episode 5 – Logistics in the Northern Plateau

This episode begins with the group arriving on the Northern Plateau, where they encounter Fass, a dwarf who’s been searching for a special liquor called Boshaft for over two centuries. Frieren and her companions help him find it, even though she knows it’s not very good and was originally made as a joke by an elf. The real heart of the story isn’t the liquor itself, but Fass’s long journey to find something important to share with others, no matter the outcome.

The episode then shifts to a lighter tone when Frieren unexpectedly finds herself working in the mines for hundreds of years to settle an old debt. While Fern and Stark attempt to rescue her, they discover the situation was actually arranged to allow Frieren to assist a northern trading company with collecting materials and boosting their efficiency. This blend of serious and comedic storylines makes the episode particularly memorable.

5) Episode 1 – Shall We Go, Then?

This season’s first episode clearly shows it will feature self-contained stories, and it introduces this approach in a clever way. When the group finds themselves in a place where magic doesn’t work, their adventure becomes surprisingly exciting, and Stark takes the lead in protecting everyone from the creatures they encounter.

Instead of fighting, the group decides to escape, proving that sometimes retreating is the best option. They then reach a city, where old friends try to convince Stark to join them, but he reaffirms his loyalty to the team, creating a lighthearted exchange with Fern. This first episode perfectly sets the stage for a season focused on personal, intimate stories.

4) Episode 10 – A Beautiful Sight

The season ends with a strong two-part story, showcasing two of the show’s best tales. One focuses on Gehen, who has spent the last two centuries building a bridge – a project Himmel once assisted with. When the group helps Gehen overcome the creatures blocking the bridge, it feels satisfying to finally see it finished.

The second half of the episode involves the group accepting a new quest to eliminate a monster horde, but this time the reason is unique: the client doesn’t want resources, but a beautiful view. This makes the episode particularly captivating. The ending also quietly hints at the storyline for the next season.

3) Episode 2 – The Hero of the South

The second episode surprised viewers with a captivating backstory about the Hero of the South, an unsung hero who played a crucial role in setting up Himmel’s party for their eventual victory over the Demon Lord and his forces. His incredible power was revealed, making his story particularly memorable, and hinting that he’ll reappear later in the series.

The second half of the episode was packed with action, brilliantly animated by Madhouse. It also cleverly set up a memorable moment of Frieren looking upwards, which quickly became popular with fans. Overall, this made the episode particularly strong.

2) Episode 4 – Other People’s Home

Everyone was really looking forward to episode 4 because the last one hinted at a date between Fern and Stark – something fans had been hoping for! While their date wasn’t perfect and showed how different they are, it felt very realistic. Surprisingly, it ended up being one of the best moments of the season, and confirmed that Fern and Stark are a good match.

This episode truly stands out because of its second half, when the group reaches the Northern Plateau checkpoint and immediately faces the area’s threats. It also thoughtfully explores what it means for Frieren to assist in defeating monsters, staying perfectly in line with the spirit of the series.

1) Episode 8 – A Magnificent End

I’ve been watching this season, and while most episodes had shorter, self-contained stories, this one really impressed me with its action. It wraps up the ‘Revolte’ arc, and it’s clear Madhouse knows how to deliver a thrilling fight. Seeing Stark and Genau battle this incredibly powerful, four-sword-wielding demon was just non-stop tension – I was completely hooked!

Fern and Methode surprisingly make a great team, with Methode cleverly hiding Fern’s magical abilities while she wins her fight using straightforward but effective spells. This really shows why Fern earned the rank of First Class Mage. Overall, this episode of Frieren Season 2 lives up to its impressive title and is truly excellent.
