However, there’s good news for fans of one particular series: after being taken off Netflix in December and unavailable for months, all 100 episodes of this beloved sci-fi show will be back on a streaming service very soon.
Fans of the sci-fi series The 100 were disappointed when it was removed from streaming services four months ago, but good news – it’s coming back! All episodes will be available to stream on Pluto TV starting May 1st, and it’s completely free. Along with The 100, you’ll also find other CW shows like Hart of Dixie and Arrow. Created by Jason Rothenberg and based on Kass Morgan’s novels, The 100 originally aired on The CW from 2014 to 2020. The show centers around 100 young criminals who are sent back to Earth nearly a century after a nuclear disaster to see if the planet can support life again.
The 100 Was a Defining 2010s Sci-Fi Show
During its seven seasons on The CW, The 100 attracted a dedicated following, and for good reason. Unlike many shows on that network, it quickly moved away from typical teen romance and embraced a darker, more realistic style of storytelling. The series evolved from a simple survival story into a complex and intense dystopian drama with high stakes, challenging moral dilemmas, and no guaranteed safety for its characters. Over time, it even expanded into a sprawling science fiction saga involving space and alien life.
Generally, The 100 received positive reviews. Critics consistently rated it highly, with a 93% average score across all seven seasons on Rotten Tomatoes, and four seasons even achieved a perfect 100% rating. Viewer opinions were more mixed, starting strong at 87% in Season 2 but falling to 43% by Season 7, averaging 68%. The show was praised for its complex characters, strong female leads, and thrilling survival themes, but it also faced criticism and some fans felt the quality declined after Season 4, with many issues arising from Season 5 onwards. The show’s morally gray characters sometimes sparked controversy.
