The 1990s were a fantastic time to be a fan of sitcoms. Whether you loved NBC’s popular shows like Seinfeld, Friends, and Frasier, or ABC’s TGIF lineup featuring Full House and Family Matters, there were plenty of great comedies to choose from. Now, fans can relive that era – all 259 episodes of a classic ‘90s sitcom will soon be available to stream on Prime Video.
All 259 episodes of the classic sitcom Married… With Children will be available to stream on Prime Video starting March 25th. The show originally ran on Fox for 11 seasons, from 1987 to 1997, and remains the network’s longest-running live-action comedy. Created by Michael G. Moye and Ron Leavitt, the series centers on the hilariously dysfunctional Bundy family of Chicago – Al, a frustrated shoe salesman; his laid-back wife, Peggy; and their two kids. The show starred Ed O’Neill, Katey Sagal, Christina Applegate, David Faustino, Amanda Bearse, and David Garrison.
Why Is Married… With Children So Good?
Among 1990s sitcoms, Married… With Children stood out as truly different. It went against the grain of typical TV shows – especially those from the 1980s and early ‘90s – by ditching the polished, feel-good moments and instead offering a realistic, often crude, look at the lives of a working-class American family. Originally considered Not the Cosbys, the show intentionally avoided portraying a perfect family. The Bundys were openly dysfunctional and didn’t experience much personal growth, Al was a relatable anti-hero who never quite succeeded, and Peggy was a far cry from the idealized TV mother.
Married… With Children stood out as a remarkably relatable sitcom because of its honest and straightforward portrayal of family life. It proved that even dysfunctional and frustrating everyday experiences could be funny. The show was full of running jokes – like Al’s ‘No Ma’am’ club – and didn’t hold back with its satire or crude humor. It tackled topics other sitcoms avoided, such as sex, financial struggles, and traditional gender roles, consistently delivering laughs. Over its 11 seasons, the show earned an impressive average Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 97%, and it paved the way for today’s more daring and imperfect comedies, including The Simpsons, Family Guy, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
What’s New on Prime Video?
With 259 episodes, Married… With Children will provide hours of entertainment, and it’s coming to Prime Video this March! While you wait, Prime Video has a lot of other great options, including movies like Airport, Hannibal, Resident Evil, all four Shrek movies, Teen Wolf (1985), and Uptown Girls. When Married… With Children arrives on March 25th, you’ll also be able to watch shows like Drop Dead Diva, Rules of Engagement, and The Shield.
