After concluding Kuma’s backstory, the One Piece anime has once again dived into present-day action at Egghead, signaling the transition and approaching climax of the Egghead Arc with fresh opening and ending themes. Among these new tunes, the opening theme “Carmine” by Ellegarden has particularly impressed fans. Since the start of the Wano Arc, One Piece’s anime has consistently delivered outstanding opening themes, and the Egghead Arc’s addition to this list has remained impressive.
Not only does the latest opening for One Piece have an irresistibly catchy melody, but it’s also stunningly animated to match the quality of the show’s recent episodes. Plus, true to its name, the new opening for the Egghead Arc is packed with hidden references and nods to past episodes that can be hard to spot-and there are many of them!
Warning: Contains One Piece Manga Spoilers!
35) The East Blue Gang
The fresh scene kicks off powerfully, featuring Vegapunk’s broadcast commencing, a key element in the second part of the Egghead Arc. Simultaneously, a side monitor shows a flatline, subtly suggesting Vegapunk’s impending demise. Later on, there’s an exciting flashback to the East Blue Saga as several familiar and cherished characters make appearances. From left to right, they are Woop Slap, Makino with her baby, Chouchou, Orange Town’s mayor Shimotsuki Koshiro, Usopp’s crew members, Merry, Kaya, Patty, Zeff, Carne, Chabo, Genzo, Nojiko, Johnny, Yosaku, Nako, Ipponmatsu, Miss Monday, Mr 9, Nanday, Crocus, Dalton, and Dr. Kureha.
34) Koza and Alabasta
In the whirlwind of the freshly unveiled opening for “One Piece”, there I was, excitedly catching a glimpse of Koza and his dad, Toto, right off the bat! They were both tuned in to Vegapunk’s broadcast, stationed in Yuba, Alabasta. To make things even more intriguing, Erik and Kappa were also present, characters last spotted in Volume 22 of the Decks of the World cover story during Chapter 638. Absolutely thrilling!
33) Sabo and the Revolutionaries
One notable appearance in the opening scene is Sabo, now known as the Flame Emperor, standing alongside other Commanders of the Revolutionary Army. Among them are Jiron Belo Betty, Lindbergh, Koala, Ushiano, Ahiru, Inazuma, Emporio Invankov, and even Morley, whose massive fist and skirt peek from the top left corner.
This paraphrase maintains the original’s meaning while using simpler language and a more natural sentence structure to make it easier to read.
32) Koby, SWORD, and the Marines
The new opening theme for Egghead focuses similarly on Koby, the Marine’s latest protagonist, just like it did with Sabo earlier. In this theme, we see Koby alongside members of SWORD, which includes characters like Kujaku, Helmeppo, Prince Grus, Hibari, and interestingly enough, X Drake, who was believed deceased in the storyline up until now. The picture is framed with Akainu and Kuzan on either side, positioning Koby and SWORD as a moral balance between their contrasting ideals of justice.
31) Garling, Gunko, and Shamrock
In the recent update of the anime series “One Piece,” Saint Figarland Garling, who made his debut during the God Valley flashback, resurfaces in the new opening theme. Accompanying him are four hooded members of the Holy Knights, and it seems that Gunko and Shamrock are among them based on a quick look at Gunko’s bandages and Shamrock’s stubble. It appears that the large, muscular figure to the left might be Saint Sommers, while the one on the right could be Saint Killingham.
30) One Piece’s New Four Emperors of the Sea
A notable appearance in the recent debut scene includes Shanks, strategically positioned between the newly crowned pirates, Blackbeard and Buggy, with swords crossed – reminiscent of Roger’s execution – as Luffy nonchalantly dons his straw hat towards the end of the shot.
29) Vivi and the Poneglyphs
Based on the new information about the Nefertari family’s hidden lineage, which includes their role in distributing the mysterious poneglyphs, it seems very appropriate that Vivi is depicted with the poneglyphs and a red line visible behind her as a backdrop.
28) Shirahoshi, Luffy, and Blackbeard’s Cut Up Posters
In the latest opening of “One Piece,” there’s an intriguing nod that some fans might have overlooked: a scene featuring Shirahoshi’s photo and split-apart wanted posters of Luffy and Blackbeard. These images were initially shown when Imu was introduced in the series, accompanied by the colossal Straw Hat. Although the purpose behind this action remains unclear, it suggests that Imu could have a more prominent part to play in the future storyline.
27) Vivi’s Missing Poster and Luffy’s New Wanted Poster
Apart from a reference to classic wanted posters, the latest introduction scene includes a snapshot of Luffy’s updated Wanted Poster following Wano, showing him in Gear Five form. In a clever cut, Vivi’s missing poster is briefly shown as well.
26) The Giant Pirates Arrive at Egghead
One significant surprise in the revised introductory tune is the unexpected appearance of Dorry, Brogy, and their Pirate Gang led by Egghead. These characters were recently discovered to be alive after the battle that supposedly ended Captain Kidd’s life and his crew, and the opening theme unintentionally reveals the plot twist of them joining forces with the Straw Hats during the Buster Call.
25) Dorry and Brogy vs. the Five Elders
Instead of merely ruining Dorry and Brogy’s meeting with the Straw Hats, the opening scene additionally showcases them battling against the Five Elders, most notably St. Nusjuro. Furthermore, it offers viewers a sneak peek at the other Five Elders undergoing transformations, such as St. Warcury’s Hoki form and St. Mars’ Istumad form, gliding across the frame.
24) The Secret Submerged World of One Piece
The latest episode offers a sneak peek into one of the major secrets hidden within the underwater realm of “One Piece,” a truth that is set to be unveiled during Vegapunk’s broadcast in the series.
23) Ohara’s Research Being Saved
In the thrilling saga of Egghead Arc, I myself uncovered that Ohara’s groundbreaking research was safeguarded at an immense cost – the very lives of those dedicated researchers who flung the precious books into the ocean to shield them from the island-consuming inferno. Now, as these discoveries take center stage in Vegapunk’s recent broadcast, I find myself revisiting that opening scene with a renewed sense of importance. It turns out that seemingly casual moment may indeed hold secrets yet to be unearthed!
22) Fishman Island and the Citizens of Lulusia
Among the many guest appearances in the updated introduction, you’ll find Princess Shirahoshi, King Neptune, and Moda, the dairy maiden from Lulusia. Surrounding them are the remaining inhabitants of their island, who also make an appearance.
21) Wano and the Royal Palace of Alubarna
The updated introduction features appearances by Momonosuke, Shinobu, Kinemon, and charmingly, Otama, who is depicted eating mochi while dressed like a female ninja. Simultaneously, the opening showcases a scene from King Cobra’s funeral at Alabasta, evident in the central sarcophagus and Cobra’s portrait on display.
20) The Iron Giant of Egghead
While fans might need to wait for some time before they witness the Iron Giant in action, the latest scene featuring Egghead serves as an exciting sneak peek of things to unfold. As you may later discover, this colossal figure is named Emet, and he’s seen with his eyes illuminated, poised to jump into combat. However, fans will have to be patient and watch further to find out what has stirred him from slumber.
19) Bonney Finally Finds Nika
Without a doubt, Bonney identifying Luffy as Nika is one of the most eagerly awaited events in the Egghead Arc. Kuma’s heartrending past underscores the immense importance of Nika not only to Bonney but also to Kuma. Lastly, the opening theme brings us the moment where she understands the connection between Luffy and Gear Five.
18) Mock Town Mocks Vegapunk
Among those watching Vegapunk’s posthumous transmission is Mock Town, where their residents are heard laughing and making fun of Vegapunk’s outlandish claims and disclosures. It’s as if no time has passed since the Straw Hats first visited Mock Town, with the townsfolk continuing in their usual mocking manner.
17) Totto Land
During the initial broadcast, numerous individuals in Totto Land were seen congregating near a transponder snail. Among them were Charlotte Katakuri, Charlotte Brownie, and even Charlotte Moscato, who was previously thought to be deceased following the extraction of his soul by Big Mom.
At the start of Vegapunk’s broadcast, many people in Totto Land could be found gathered around a transponder snail. Included in this group were Charlotte Katakuri, Charlotte Brownie, and even Charlotte Moscato, who was believed to have perished after losing his soul to Big Mom.
Lastly:
In the early stages of Vegapunk’s transmission, several individuals from Totto Land were spotted huddled around a transponder snail. Among them were Charlotte Katakuri, Charlotte Brownie, and even Charlotte Moscato, who was once believed to be dead due to his soul being taken by Big Mom.
16) Fullalead
Although no recognizable figures appear to be around, both Pirate Island and Fullalead are featured in the latest opening of One Piece, suggesting that peace may have been restored following the battle between Kuzan and Garp.
15) Sabaody
As I watched the electrifying new opening theme, a quick flashback to Marineford stirred within me, but this time it was the enchanting Sabaody that captured my attention. The unique floating bubbles, a signature trait of that island, were subtly scattered throughout the scene, transporting me back to its magical shores.
14) Karakuri Island
In the latest introductory sequence for One Piece, an unanticipated setting appears – Karakuri Island, more precisely Baldimore. This place not only holds significance as Vegapunk’s birthplace but also served as one of his laboratories during the time Franky spent a considerable portion of the two-year time skip there.
13) Mariejois
Intriguingly, even the city of Mariejois appears to be heeding Vegapunk’s message in the latest opening theme, as several Celestial Dragons are gathered around the transponder snail and the projection screen. This gathering also includes St. Shalria, whose distinctive blonde hair can be seen on the far left.
12) The Marines at Navy HQ
In the latest opening theme for One Piece, we catch a glimpse at Marine Headquarters, where several Marines are gathered to watch Vegapunk’s broadcast. Notably absent from this group are any familiar faces among the Marines, as most of the Vice Admirals have been dispatched to Egghead.
11) The World Economic Journal
In the initial scenes, Vivi initially appears in a brief appearance in the new opening sequence, which includes a rapid montage. During this montage, Vivi, along with Big News Morgans and staff from the World Economic Journal, are shown collectively watching Vegapunk’s broadcast. Although it might be easy to overlook him, Wapol can also be spotted hiding behind Morgans. An intriguing aspect of this scene that some fans may have missed is a wanted poster featuring the Four Emperors displayed above the projection screen.
10) Zou/The Mokomo Dukedom
In the revamped introduction, several familiar faces from Zou are present, including Wanda, Shishilian, and even Carrot, now governing the Mokomo Dukedom.
9) Dressrosa
In the latest opening sequence, it appears that Kyros, Rebecca, Leo, and Kabu – who seem to have made their way back from Reverie – are tuning in to Vegapunk’s transmission in Dressrosa, a location across the vast world of One Piece. This multiplicity of settings highlights just how significant this enigmatic broadcast and Vegapunk’s upcoming disclosures might prove to be.
8) Dragon at Logue Town
In the past, Dragon, a character from One Piece, only showed up every few years or so. However, as we move into the Final Saga, Dragon has become a significant figure in the story, taking an active part and carrying out his hidden agendas. Interestingly, the brief appearance of Dragon in the new opening is reminiscent of his debut at Logue Town, hinting that the bolt of lightning which once saved Luffy may not have been merely a coincidence as many had suspected for over a decade.
7) The Straw Hats Hear Luffy’s Dream
More recently, the opening theme echoes back to the onset of the Egghead Arc, when Luffy finally revealed his genuine ambition to the Straw Hat pirates for the first time. Although fans are yet to crack this specific enigma, it’s thrilling to witness each crew member’s reaction in a single image.
6) Luffy First Meets Blackbeard
Alongside the appearance in Mock Town, the latest opening theme of One Piece notably recalls Luffy’s initial meeting with Blackbeard, featuring a reference to the memorable scene where Blackbeard declared, “Dreams never truly fade away.
5) Luffy Sets Sail
In the newest theme song, fans are once again reminded of past times as they revisit Luffy’s initial voyage, marked by him raising his hands towards the sky. These flashback scenes have a unique visual quality compared to the rest of the opening, featuring an artistic style reminiscent of watercolors that evoke feelings of nostalgia.
4) The Straw Hats Declaring Their Dreams
Among the most heartwarmingly nostalgic shots in the updated Egghead theme for the new season is where the Straw Hat pirates declare their dreams while standing on a barrel, about to embark on the Grand Line. Remarkably, this scene might soon be brought to life in the live-action format during Season 2 of Netflix’s adaptation of One Piece.
3) Ace and Yamato’s Flashback
Surprisingly, the latest scene seems to recall a flashback of Ace and Yamato from the Wano Arc, setting up another comparison between Sabo, Ace, and Luffy with Oden, Whitebeard, and Roger once more.
2) Roger at His Execution
In simpler terms, the latest opening theme for “One Piece” wouldn’t have felt quite right without a reference to the pivotal moment that sparked the whole adventure – Luffy’s encounter with Whitebeard at Logue Town. This segment seamlessly connects to the scene featuring Roger, forming an essential part of the new opening. It gives the impression that “One Piece” is approaching its conclusion as it embarks on its final journey through the story.
1) Joyboy and Emet
At first glance, viewers might’ve thought the figure with Emet in the title sequence was Luffy or a combination of Luffy and The Iron Giant from the current timeline. However, it turns out to be Joyboy. The key indicators are that Emet has both his horns and appears clean, without any rust or moss – unlike other depictions of him. Moreover, it’s possible that the hand reaching for the Straw Hat at the end of the opening could also belong to Joyboy. If true, this means that One Piece’s latest opening might have unveiled more about the enigmatic Void Century figure than the series has in its entire 25-year run.
One Piece can be streamed on Netflix and Crunchyroll.
