All 6 Limited Edition PS5 Consoles, Ranked

The PlayStation 5 has been available for nearly five years now. While the original white console is still the most common choice, Sony has released several special, limited-edition versions. These designs are usually connected to popular games that Sony expects to sell well. Some of these special editions have been fantastic, but others haven’t quite hit the mark.

So far, PlayStation has released six special, limited-edition PS5 consoles. They also sell separate covers for the PS5, but these are just single colors and don’t have unique designs. Because of this, we’re only ranking these limited-edition consoles, from least to most appealing.

6. Monster Hunter Wilds

The *Monster Hunter Wilds* PS5 is arguably the least impressive special edition. Instead of designing a console that truly showcased the monsters from the *Monster Hunter* series, Sony simply added a small emblem to the corner. Most of the console is plain black, making it look very similar to the standard “Midnight Black” PS5 covers.

To top it off, this PS5 model was only sold in Japan. Even if you think it looks good, its limited availability makes it one of the least desirable designs, landing it near the bottom of our list.

5. Final Fantasy 16

The special edition PlayStation 5 for *Final Fantasy 16* is a lot like the *Monster Hunter Wilds* version – it’s another all-black console with a basic logo for the game. This time, the *Final Fantasy 16* logo is in the center, but it’s not a particularly creative design. However, the artwork on this *Final Fantasy 16* console is better than what we saw on the *Monster Hunter Wilds* version, which is why it ranks slightly higher.

This PS5 design was only released in Japan and never made available elsewhere. Instead of selling this special console globally, Sony opted to bundle digital copies of *Final Fantasy 16* with the regular white PS5. While some might be disappointed, I don’t think we’re losing much by it not being released outside of Japan.

4. Ghost of Yotei

As a big fan, I was really excited about the new *Ghost of Yotei* PS5 console, but honestly, I’m a little disappointed. Sony had a fantastic opportunity to create something truly special, tying the console’s design into the game’s world. Instead, it feels like they just put a picture of the mountain on the side. I’ll give them credit for using the whole console as a canvas, but with the base color still being white, it doesn’t really stand out from the regular PS5s.

What bothers me most about the *Ghost of Yotei* PS5 design is that it really only looks good when standing vertically. If you prefer to lay your PS5 down, the whole aesthetic feels off. Sony could have improved this aspect of the console.

3. LeBron James

The most unique PlayStation 5 console is definitely the one created in partnership with basketball star LeBron James. PlayStation has collaborated with several celebrities – including Travis Scott and Lisa – but the LeBron James edition is the only one that actually became a real product. It includes a limited-edition PS5 console and DualSense controller.

This console’s design isn’t particularly impressive and could easily be ranked lower. It features colorful crowns referencing LeBron James’s “King James” nickname, along with the phrase “Nothing is given, everything is earned.” However, the fact that this unusual and one-of-a-kind PS5 exists at all makes me place it a little higher on the list.

2. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

For PlayStation fans, the *Marvel’s Spider-Man 2* PS5 is probably the most memorable Limited Edition console. Released by Sony in 2023 alongside the game, it features a striking red and black design. The black portions on the console’s faceplates are meant to resemble the Spider-Man symbiote, appearing to spread across the surface.

Honestly, what really gets me excited about this PS5 is how perfectly it ties into the story of *Spider-Man 2*. It feels like the console itself is part of the game’s world, which is something I haven’t experienced with any other limited edition PlayStation. If Sony ever makes more special edition PS5s based on their other big games, they should definitely take notes on how they did this one.

1. PlayStation 30th Anniversary

The 30th Anniversary PS5 easily takes the top spot. Released last year, this special edition console is a nostalgic throwback to the original PlayStation. It features a light gray color scheme, along with colored buttons and a classic PlayStation logo on the DualSense controller. It’s a beautiful console that perfectly blends retro inspiration with modern design.

It might be just me remembering older consoles fondly, but I think this is the most stylish the PS5 has ever looked. I actually hope Sony replaces the standard white PS5 with this design. It seems a lot of PlayStation fans agree, as the limited 30th Anniversary edition sold out instantly. If you have one of these consoles, you’re very lucky!
