Who will be the villain in The Batman: Part II remains unknown. Many DC characters have been suggested or hinted at, and we’ve ranked all seven potential antagonists from most to least exciting.
The world of Robert Pattinson’s Batman is already full of criminals, as we saw with the Joker’s appearance in the first film. This opens the door for many established characters to appear in The Batman: Part II, giving Batman a wide range of potential enemies. While we’ve gotten some clues about who the main villain might be, it’s still unconfirmed. Here’s a ranking of the possible antagonists, from least to most interesting.
7) The Riddler – Rumored

Many fans loved Paul Dano’s portrayal of the Riddler in The Batman, and the film ends with him in Arkham State Hospital, having a conversation with the Joker, hinting at a possible partnership in a future movie. While it would be great to see the Riddler return, it wouldn’t be as impactful as seeing other characters get their due. The Batman already focused heavily on the Riddler, and after a long wait for the sequel, it would be disappointing if he overshadowed the other characters again.
6) The Penguin – Confirmed

Colin Farrell will reprise his role as Oz Cobb, the Penguin, in The Batman: Part II, which is great news since he’s a fan-favorite character. However, Farrell has hinted his part might be small. Plus, the Penguin wasn’t the main villain in the first Batman movie, and the recent The Penguin TV series has already explored his backstory extensively, leaving limited options for his character arc in the sequel.
5) Gilda Dent – Rumored

Scarlett Johansson will be in the next Batman movie, but it’s still a mystery what role she’ll play. While many possibilities are being discussed, the most talked-about is Gilda Dent. Her casting was revealed shortly before Sebastian Stan was announced as Harvey Dent, leading many to believe their characters will be connected.
Gilda Dent is married to Harvey Dent, and even though she’s connected to a famous Batman villain, she hasn’t been in any of the live-action Batman movies yet. In the comic storyline The Long Halloween, she becomes the Holiday Killer, and many fans expect this plotline to be used in The Batman: Part II. This makes her potential appearance so interesting, because her story hasn’t been told on film before in a Batman adaptation.
4) Hush – Rumored

When The Batman came out, everyone immediately started buzzing about Hush being the big bad guy in the sequel. Director Matt Reeves dropped a few hints, and eagle-eyed fans even spotted the word “HUSH” briefly in the film itself, so a lot of us were convinced it was happening. But over time, that theory has cooled down. Now, most of the speculation points towards The Court of Owls as the more likely villain for the next movie.
While it seems unlikely, seeing Hush appear on screen would be amazing. He’s never been portrayed in a live-action film or show, and his strong ties to Bruce Wayne’s story make him a great addition to the upcoming second installment.
3) The Joker – Rumored

Barry Keoghan’s Joker appeared briefly in The Batman, hinting at a larger role as the villain in the sequel. But reports suggest he won’t be the primary antagonist in The Batman: Part II. Instead, he might appear as a supporting character, similar to Hannibal Lecter offering insight to Clarice Starling. While this is still a promising development, some feel it doesn’t fully utilize the Joker’s potential. Given the character’s frequent appearances in other films, it might be wise to hold off on making him the central villain for now.
2) The Court of Owls – Rumored

For years, fans have speculated that the Court of Owls would be the main villains in the sequel to The Batman, and those rumors have only grown stronger. The Court is a powerful, hidden society made up of Gotham’s wealthiest and most influential people, secretly controlling the city from behind the scenes. Given the story and themes of the first film, the Court of Owls feels like a natural fit, emphasizing the deep corruption within Gotham.
However, if the sequel uses these villains, it needs to avoid repeating a plot point from The Batman. That film already centered on Bruce Wayne discovering a conspiracy involving Gotham’s most powerful people, so the next installment will need a significantly more complex storyline to feel fresh.
1) Harvey Dent – Confirmed

Sebastian Stan is joining the cast of The Batman: Part II as Harvey Dent, and he’s arguably the most anticipated new addition. While it’s unclear if Dent will transform into the villain Two-Face, Stan has the talent to deliver a truly memorable performance if he does. Details about Dent’s role are scarce, which only adds to the excitement surrounding the character.
