A new fantasy series, adapted from popular novels, is now available to stream, but access is limited. While there are many options for fantasy fans – like Game of Thrones and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on HBO Max, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Prime Video, and The Witcher on Netflix – this new adaptation is on a less well-known streaming service. It’s based on the historical fantasy series by Stephen R. Lawhead and consists of seven episodes.
Stephen R. Lawhead’s popular book series, The Pendragon Cycle, has been adapted into a streaming show titled The Pendragon Cycle: Rise of the Merlin. The first season, consisting of seven episodes, is available to watch now, exclusively on DailyWire+.
Should You Be Watching The Pendragon Cycle on DailyWire+?

The Pendragon Cycle: Rise of the Merlin is a series of books by Stephen R. Lawhead, drawing inspiration from the classic stories of King Arthur. Originally intended to be four books, the series was shortened to three by its first publisher. Later, Lawhead continued the story with a new publisher, adding two books that fit between the original trilogy’s events, and then a sixth book set hundreds of years afterward. Most recently, he released a seventh book, Aurelia.
This fantasy series tells the story of Merlin, who is the son of a legendary bard and an Atlantean princess. He struggles with madness and vanishes, but later reappears before King Arthur is born. Merlin then works to bring the divided kingdoms of Britain together while facing an invasion by the Saxons.
Because the show is available on DailyWire+, it doesn’t have as wide an audience as other series. Surprisingly, it hasn’t received any reviews from professional critics, but it does have over 250 viewer ratings with an average positive score of 86% on Popcornmeter. It’s worth noting that some of the viewer reviews seem very similar, raising questions about their authenticity. Despite this, many reviews suggest that The Pendragon Cycle: Rise of the Merlin is a good start to a fantasy series and potentially worth watching.
The first two episodes of The Pendragon Cycle: Rise of the Merlin were released on January 22nd, with the season finale airing on March 5th. However, the show streams on DailyWire+, a platform much smaller than major services like Netflix, HBO Max, and Amazon Prime Video. DailyWire+ has around one million subscribers – a number reported in 2022 and predicted to remain consistent through 2024. Because the service is controversial due to its political stance, shows like The Pendragon Cycle: Rise of the Merlin struggle to reach a large audience, which is crucial for the show’s continued success.
