Fall is officially here, bringing with it the newest season of All Creatures Great and Small – and it’s been quite a beginning, to say the least.
With Mrs. Hall back – which is a relief – and Siegfried’s temper flaring up more and more often, life in Darrowby is always interesting. The actors are hoping there are many more stories to tell after the episodes we’re currently seeing.
“There are certainly more stories we can explore,” Nicholas Ralph shared about the show’s potential continuation. “And speaking personally, I would be thrilled to be involved in future installments.”
Callum Woodhouse is equally keen to return, though he believes “there is an end in sight”.
He advised, “You should leave while things are still good.” He explained that you shouldn’t continue until the situation feels old or forced.
But he’s confident that point is still far off.
“And we’re definitely not finished,” Woodhouse added. “There are still plenty of stories left to explore. I don’t anticipate this ending anytime soon, but I also don’t see it lasting indefinitely.”
On the topic of a potential spin-off, Woodhouse revealed an idea he’d love to see realised.

He mentioned, somewhat surprisingly, that he believes Jenny is the most likely character to get a spin-off show. “I really think Jenny deserves her own series,” he said. “Imagine pairing her with a more unconventional character – like Jenny and Mrs. Pumphrey. That show would be amazing! It could be like a buddy cop dynamic: Jenny and Mrs. Pumphrey. That would be incredible.”
Most of all, he’s hopeful for an All Creatures film.
He explained that there’s been a lot of talk, especially among the cast, about wanting to make a movie. “We have Brian Percival directing the series – he was the key director for Downton Abbey. And they’re already working on a film now, aren’t they? How many films have they made? Hopefully, we can get one too!” [Laughs].
Currently, the people involved are optimistic about the future – “as victory in Europe is declared”.
The story suggests peace is finally within reach, but James is hoping to find more calm at work. He’s trying to balance his duties as a vet with the demands of a full family life and a particularly difficult relationship with Siegfried.
Elsewhere, Helen cherishes moments with young Jimmy and Rosie, but is dealing with significant shifts at Heston. At the same time, Tristan returns to Darrowby after years of service in the war and needs to get used to civilian life again. Meanwhile, Mrs. Hall dedicates herself to reuniting everyone and bringing peace back to the practice. It’s a time of transition and rebuilding for all involved.
We see the characters finding each other again, remembering what matters to them, and feeling hopeful about what’s to come as the world starts to recover and feel alive again.
You can find seasons 1 through 5 of All Creatures Great and Small on Channel 5. James Herriot’s All Creatures Great and Small is also available for purchase on Amazon.
