All Haikyu Arcs Ranked From Worst to Best

Please be aware that this article reveals plot details from the Haikyu!! manga. This popular sports anime, based on Haruichi Furudate’s Weekly Shonen Jump manga Haikyu!!, is a comfort watch for many fans. The story follows Shoyo Hinata, a determined young volleyball player who dreams of becoming like the famous “Little Giant,” a high school player known for his success. However, Shoyo’s first middle school tournament ends badly when he’s defeated by the talented Tobio Kageyama. Determined to improve, Shoyo enrolls at Karasuno High School, the same school the Little Giant attended, only to discover that Kageyama is also a student there.

Now teammates, they need to overcome their past competition and collaborate to qualify for the national high school championships. The manga ran from 2012 to 2020 and was divided into six main story arcs. While each arc is excellent, they are all ranked differently in terms of quality, with some being considered superior to others.

6) Interhigh Arc

After building a new team with their first-year players, Karasuno competes in its first major tournament. The arc features thrilling matches, notably their showdown against Aoba Josai and its setter, Tohru Oikawa. Despite many exciting moments, this arc ultimately ranks lower than the others because they are a bit more compelling overall.

5) Karasuno High Team Formation Arc

This initial story arc introduces the main characters and establishes the foundation for everything that follows. From the memorable middle school match between Hinata and Kageyama to the formation of the team at Karasuno High, this arc is full of surprising and engaging moments.

4) Final Arc

I’ve always heard this series has one of the most satisfying conclusions ever published in Jump, and the current story arc really shows you why. Sadly, the anime hasn’t gotten to it yet. It jumps forward several years after Shoyo graduates high school, showing him training in Brazil. Eventually, he comes back to Japan and starts competing against his old high school rivals, all while trying to make it onto the professional MSBY Black Jackals team.

3) Tokyo Expedition Arc

This popular story arc doesn’t include any official games. Instead, it centers around a training camp where the best high school volleyball teams in Tokyo practice together, and Karasuno gets invited to participate. Through this experience, the team realizes how much they need to improve if they hope to compete at the national level. The arc is also known for its funny and heartwarming scenes, and it introduces many fan-favorite characters.

2) Spring High Preliminary Arc

Reaching the national tournament won’t be simple for Karasuno. They need to become the best team in their prefecture, which means defeating some incredibly strong schools. Their biggest challenge will be Shiratorizawa, the top team in the prefecture, known for their nearly impenetrable defense and powerful attacks. But the Karasuno team, considered the underdogs of Miyagi, are just beginning to reach their full potential and are determined to overcome any obstacle.

1) Tokyo Nationals Arc

The Tokyo Spring Nationals were incredibly exciting from beginning to end, and many fans consider it the best part of the series so far. The match between Karasuno and Nekoma was a particular standout, largely due to the history between their coaches. However, the anime still needs to cover two other important matches that contain some of the most memorable scenes in the entire series.
