All Jujutsu Kaisen Arcs Ranked From Worst to Best

Please be aware that this article contains spoilers from the *Jujutsu Kaisen* manga! Though the manga by Gege Akutami ended last year, the anime is still ongoing. Season three is scheduled to premiere in January 2026, picking up the story after the devastating Shibuya Incident, which dramatically changed the world of Jujutsu. The new season promises exciting moments and will introduce several new characters. The story will cover the Culling Game arc, the second to last arc in the manga, before concluding with a final battle to determine the strongest.

The series is divided into eleven story arcs, starting with a prequel that was turned into a hugely successful 2021 movie. Initially, the story focused on Yuta Okkotsu, but a year later, it shifted to Yuji Itadori – a normal high school student who accidentally consumed a powerful cursed object. This made him the host for Ryomen Sukuna, widely considered the strongest sorcerer ever. While every story arc in *Jujutsu Kaisen* is engaging, one stands out above the rest. Which arc is the best?

11) Fearsome Womb Arc

A big reason fans love *Jujutsu Kaisen* is that it quickly jumps into intense action and a dangerous world. That’s what viewers expect from an action series! Even in the very first story arc, you see Yuji and Megumi battling a strong curse, an incredible fight between Gojo and Sukuna over just one finger, Nobara showing off her abilities, the first-year students facing a particularly powerful curse, and another intense battle between Gojo and the dangerous Jogo.

The first 18 chapters are packed with exciting moments that immediately grab the audience’s attention. This initial arc skillfully introduces the story’s core concept and explains the intricate power dynamics, all woven into the action of each fight.

10) Death Painting Arc

Though Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara didn’t often team up, they consistently impressed everyone with their powerful abilities when they did. Their investigation into strange disappearances at Megumi’s old middle school revealed the existence of Death Paintings – unusual beings created from a mix of human and cursed energy.

Three of the nine Death Paintings sided with the villains, finding themselves with nowhere else to turn and ultimately battling the first-year students. Meanwhile, Megumi confronted the powerful cursed spirit responsible for the missing students, while Yuji and Nobara managed to defeat Kechizu and Eso, Choso’s younger brothers. This also marks the end of Season 1, bringing the thrilling first part of this incredible story to a close.

9) Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc

The yearly friendly rivalry between students from Tokyo and Kyoto Jujutsu High turns dangerous when the school is attacked by strong cursed spirits and those who wield them. One of the attackers, Hanami, is an especially powerful and unregistered cursed spirit, even more frightening than Jogo. Knowing Satoru Gojo, the most powerful sorcerer, would easily defeat them, the villains made sure he couldn’t reach the forest where the competition – and now the attack – was taking place.

Yuji narrowly escaped death and has been secretly training, making him much stronger. However, he still needs to master the basics, so his rival, Aoi Todo, steps in to teach him a powerful technique called Black Flash. The most exciting part of this story arc is the fight against Hanami, but it doesn’t have a clear winner – the villain manages to get away even after a strong attack from Gojo.

8) Vs. Mahito Arc

Gojo is hiding Yuji from his superiors and enlists the help of Nanami Kento, a skilled sorcerer, to look after him temporarily. Though hesitant at first, Nanami agrees and begins taking Yuji on missions alongside his training. During this time, they unexpectedly face a formidable curse named Mahito, who would later become a major antagonist in *Jujutsu Kaisen*.

The villain quickly stood out because of his disturbing, yet immature personality and surprising strength for a relatively new cursed spirit. He deeply affected Yuji by ruining and ultimately killing Junpei Yoshino right before Yuji’s eyes. Though Yuji and Nanami worked together to fight him, the villain managed to escape and continued causing chaos.

7) Itadori’s Extermination Arc

I watched as things unfolded immediately after the Shibuya Incident. Yuta Okkotsu, a really powerful sorcerer, seemed to be going after Yuji, apparently upset about the destruction Sukuna caused. He was especially furious about how badly Toge Inumaki was hurt, and that Toge had lost an arm in the fight. But what most people didn’t know was that Yuta was actually trying to protect Yuji – Gojo had specifically asked him to keep an eye on his student.

Following the devastating events in Shibuya, the country and the world of Jujutsu are in turmoil. Yuji and his friends are determined to rescue Satoru Gojo, but they face a difficult challenge as a mysterious enemy carries out a complex plan.

6) Perfect Preparation Arc

The Perfect Preparation arc begins immediately after the events where Yuji narrowly escaped being hunted by Jujutsu society’s leaders. Though Yuta helped him fake his death, things within the Jujutsu world are still getting worse. Meanwhile, the Zenin Clan is using the recent death of their leader and the resulting confusion to target Maki and Mai, who they see as disappointments to the family.

It’s absolutely heartbreaking, but after experiencing such a devastating loss, Maki discovers this incredible, hidden power within herself! Fueled by grief and rage, she takes on an entire clan – the ones who caused her so much pain and took her sister from her – and single-handedly destroys them. Meanwhile, everyone else is desperately trying to figure out how to free Gojo, and the clues seem to point towards the Tombs of the Star Corridor, where a powerful, almost mythical being is said to live.

5) Shibuya Incident Arc

Jujutsu Kaisen was always a fairly dark series, but things took a much more tragic turn during the Shibuya Incident. Before this arc, sorcerers relied on Satoru Gojo to protect people from threats. However, when Kenjaku tricked and trapped Gojo, it became clear that the sorcerers were no match for the villains, and the story fundamentally changed from that point on.

To make matters worse, Jogo compelled Yuji to consume several of Sukuna’s fingers, causing him to lose control and allowing Sukuna to take over for a short time. Even those few minutes were enough for Sukuna to kill thousands of people during his battle with Mahoraga, the incredibly powerful and untamable spirit summoned by the Ten Shadows Technique.

4) Culling Game Arc

The Culling Game is a highly awaited story arc, and it’s easy to see why. Kenjaku forces a brutal battle royale where powerful new characters fight to earn points and, more importantly, survive.

This story arc is packed with constant fighting between many characters, all while powerful sorcerers work to release Satoru Gojo. The arc ends with a huge cliffhanger: Gojo escapes from the Prison Realm and agrees to fight Sukuna, setting up the final showdown of the series.

3) Cursed Child Arc

This story takes place a year before the main events and centers on Yuta Okkotsu, who is haunted by the spirit of his childhood friend, Rika Orimo. For years, Yuta wished he could die, but Rika’s spirit wouldn’t allow him to harm himself. After meeting Gojo and enrolling at Jujutsu High, Yuta starts to realize the true nature of his abilities and that he, not Rika, was the source of the curse.

He’s learning to manage his incredible, but dangerous, power while also confronting Suguru Geto, a former classmate who turned against the Jujutsu world and embraced cursed energy. This storyline focuses on the second-year students and the massive attack they faced – an event that foreshadowed the even larger Shibuya Incident.

2) Gojo’s Past Arc

This storyline flashes back to twelve years earlier, when Satoru and Suguru were both students at Jujutsu Tech. Suguru was already a powerful, special-grade sorcerer at the time. Their lives change when Master Tengen—an immortal sorcerer who safeguards Jujutsu High by strengthening its protective barriers—asks them to protect Riko Amanai, a girl with a unique ability known as a Star Vessel.

I’m completely hooked on this story! Basically, every few centuries, a special ship appears – a Star Vessel – that can actually connect with Master Tengen and keep him immortal. But there’s a catch! This girl, Riko, has a huge bounty on her head because some groups don’t want her and Tengen to connect. So, it’s up to this incredible pair to get Riko to Tengen safely. Sadly, a dangerous bounty hunter known as the Sorcerer Killer decides he wants that reward for himself, and things get seriously complicated!

1) Shinjuku Showdown Arc

The manga’s climax starts with an epic battle considered one of the greatest in recent Shonen history. Though Satoru escapes the Prison Realm, he’s ultimately defeated by the villain’s overwhelming power. The story then focuses on a fight against Sukuna and Kenjaku, with most of the characters eager to take them on.

Knowing they were up against the two strongest beings ever, the sorcerers understood that a direct attack, like Gojo attempted, would be a terrible mistake. They’d already prepared backup plans, expecting Gojo might lose.
