Over its run of more than 10 years in both the anime and manga formats, My Hero Academia has given us countless adventures following Class 1-A, and the story has progressed to season 8 of the anime.
But the title has also made it clear that some students are definitely stronger than others.
The 20 students at U.A. High School have developed from inexperienced teenagers into almost fully-fledged heroes, improving their unique abilities-or quirks-and testing their skills against some of the most formidable villains in the series. After demonstrating their growth in both power and maturity throughout the Final War Arc in season 7, now feels like the ideal moment to assess each student’s current standing in a power ranking.
Now that we’re getting into the final parts of the My Hero Academia anime with season 8, here’s a clear ranking of the students from Class 1-A, from the least powerful to the most, based on what we’ve seen at the end of Season 7.
My Hero Academia’s Class 1-A students ranked from weakest to strongest
20. Minoru Mineta (Pop Off)

It’s hardly a shock that Mineta remains the least powerful student in Class 1-A of My Hero Academia.
Certainly, Mineta’s sticky-ball Quirk is actually quite useful; he can use it to stop enemies, build defenses, and even rescue friends when they’re in trouble. However, when you look at how much stronger and more adaptable his classmates are becoming, Mineta consistently ranks as the weakest. Despite showing courage at times, his limited fighting ability keeps him at the very bottom.
19. Yuga Aoyama (Navel Laser)

Aoyama’s impressive naval laser is powerful, but he struggles to control it consistently. His body isn’t strong enough for prolonged use, often leaving him in significant pain. While Season 7 showed us more of his resilience during the storyline about the traitor at U.A., he’s still not as strong in terms of sheer power compared to many students in Class 1-A.
18. Toru Hagakure (Invisibility)

Hagakure’s ability to become invisible is helpful for sneaking around and confusing enemies, and lately, people have discovered she might be able to attack by bending light. However, she still doesn’t deal a lot of damage. Because she lacks strong fighting skills, she’s better suited as a support hero rather than someone who leads the charge in battle. She’s more effective at helping her team than fighting on the frontline.
17. Rikido Sato (Sugar Rush)

Sato gains a significant boost in strength by eating sugar, becoming incredibly powerful for a limited time. However, there’s a major downside: the more sugar he consumes, the more his intelligence decreases. His ability has limitations, putting him at a disadvantage against classmates who are quicker and have more well-rounded skills.
16. Koji Koda (Anivoice)

Koda’s power to control animals can be a big help when used correctly, but how well it works really depends on where he is. He’s become more confident and speaks up more now, but his ability isn’t very strong if there aren’t any animals around to help him.
15. Mashirao Ojiro (Tail)

I’m continuing my ranking of the Class 1-A students from My Hero Academia, and now we’re moving on to those with more developed skills. Ojiro is a fantastic student to begin with as we go through this next tier.
Ojiro is a dedicated martial artist whose strong tail enhances his fighting. He’s a very skilled fighter when it comes to close combat, though his quirk isn’t as complex as some others. When facing opponents with a wider range of abilities, he can be at a disadvantage.
14. Mezo Shoji (Dupli-Arms)

The kind-hearted but massive Shoji utilizes his additional arms for gathering information, saving people, and helping out in fights. He’s a fantastic scout because he can copy senses. Though strong and reliable, he doesn’t usually decisively win battles, which puts him around the middle of the class in terms of overall power. More info
13. Kyoka Jiro (Earphone Jack)

Jiro has grown from being a quiet, unassuming character into a self-assured fighter and planner. She uses her earphone jacks to deliver strong sonic attacks and collect information over large distances. While her quirk isn’t as overwhelmingly powerful as some of the top-ranked heroes, with the proper gear, she’s a formidable opponent.
12. Mina Ashido (Acid)

Mina’s acidic ability gives her both powerful attack and defense options. She can dissolve solid materials, make surfaces dangerously slick, and even cover herself with acid as a shield. She’s very agile in battle, but hasn’t yet shown the full extent of what her quirk is capable of.
11. Hanta Sero (Tape)

Frequently compared to a less powerful Spider-Man, Sero utilizes his tape both for attacking and getting around. His ability to move quickly and restrain opponents makes him a strong asset in team battles, and he’s demonstrated cleverness when the pressure is on. However, his quirk doesn’t have the same overwhelming power as those ranked higher here, as his tape-based attacks can be easily countered by someone with significant physical strength.
10. Denki Kaminari (Electrification)

If we were ranking students from Class 1-A in My Hero Academia based on how they performed in the earlier seasons, Kaminari would likely be considered one of the weaker ones. This is because his power – the ability to generate electricity – always had a major drawback: using it too much could fry his brain.
However, season 7 demonstrates Kaminari’s significant progress in mastering precise control. He can now unleash incredibly accurate electrical attacks using his equipment, proving he’s much more than just a source of comic relief.
9. Tsuyu Asui (Frog)

Tsuyu Asui’s quirk is incredibly useful, making her one of the most adaptable students in Class 1-A. Thanks to her frog-like powers – like being able to jump really far, blend in with her surroundings (camouflage), and use her long, flexible tongue – she can handle almost any challenge. Beyond her abilities, she stays calm during fights and thinks strategically, which makes her a surprisingly formidable opponent.
8. Eijiro Kirishima (Hardening)

Kirishima’s rise in power is due to his unwavering determination and the improved “Red Riot Unbreakable” ability. His hardening Quirk has evolved into incredibly strong armour, letting him withstand powerful attacks and deliver forceful blows in return.
7. Fumikage Tokoyami (Dark Shadow)

Tokoyami’s Dark Shadow is a particularly intimidating quirk among his classmates. It’s usually quite strong during the day, but becomes almost impossible to stop when it’s dark. By season 7, Tokoyami has learned to control its wild behavior, turning him into a well-rounded hero capable of both offensive and defensive maneuvers.
6. Ochaco Uraraka (Zero Gravity)

Uraraka has changed a lot, becoming much more confident as she trains to be a hero, starting from being a shy student. Her quirk lets her cancel out gravity, which sounds simple but can be used in many different ways. Along with her better martial arts skills and specialized gear, she’s now a strong fighter capable of taking on powerful enemies. She’s really grown into a capable hero.
5. Tenya Iida (Engine)

The consistently reliable president of Class 1-A has refined his speed-based quirk to an incredibly sharp level, putting Tenya among the top five students in our MHA rankings. Thanks to his Reciprio Turbo upgrade, Iida is now capable of moving at amazing speeds for longer stretches of time. His dedication, strategic thinking, and enhanced endurance make him one of the most trustworthy heroes in the class.
4. Momo Yaoyorozu (Creation)

Momo Yaoyorozu’s Creation quirk is likely one of the most useful abilities in the whole show, as she can create almost anything, provided she knows what it’s made of. Throughout the series, her main challenge was a lack of self-belief, but by season 7, she’s grown into a strong leader and thinker. When used effectively, her quirk is incredibly powerful and hard to beat.
3. Katsuki Bakugo (Explosion)

Bakugo’s ability to create explosions has always been powerful and somewhat chaotic, but by season 7, he’s gained much better control and is using it in more inventive ways. His speed, ability to move through the air, and overwhelming power combine to make him one of the most dangerous fighters in the series. Even with his quick temper, Bakugo has repeatedly shown he’s both a strong rival and a valuable ally.
2. Shoto Todoroki (Half-Cold Half-Hot)

I’ve always been impressed by Todoroki; he’s truly one of the strongest students in Class 1-A. What really sets him apart is his ability to use both ice and fire so effectively – it gives him incredible control in a fight. He can freeze opponents, burn them, and even completely change the landscape around him. Season 7 really highlights how much he’s grown, not just in terms of mastering his quirk and finding balance between his ice and fire, but also in dealing with his personal struggles, particularly his complicated relationship with his father, Endeavour.
Todoroki is a formidable fighter both from a distance and up close, and he’s improved significantly. Although he’s one of the most well-rounded fighters in the class, there’s still one student who is slightly better than him.
1. Izuku Midoriya (Deku)

As a huge fan of My Hero Academia, I’d say that when it comes to the strongest students, Midoriya absolutely takes the top spot! It’s been incredible watching his journey – going from a kid with no Quirk to becoming the inheritor of One For All, and unlocking all the amazing powers that come with it. It’s a truly formidable transformation!
Throughout Season 7, Deku learns to control several abilities within One For All – like Blackwhip, Float, Danger Sense, and Fa Jin – in addition to the initial super strength he gained. He also gets much better at managing all of these powers over time.
Just a few seasons ago, Todoroki would have easily been ranked #1, but currently, Midoriya’s strength combined with his adaptability is unmatched. He’s capable of fighting effectively both on the ground and in the air, in close combat and from a distance, and his strategic thinking makes him very hard to defeat.
Izuku Midoriya stands out from his classmates because his abilities become more intricate with each fight. His inventive way of using these abilities has set him apart. Combining both strength and the ability to adjust to any situation, Midoriya is deservedly considered the most powerful student in Class 1-A by the end of season 7, and this will likely remain true as season 8 unfolds.
