December is all about cozying up with Christmas movies and shows, and Netflix has plenty of favorites to choose from. But if you start to feel like you’ve seen it all, there’s still lots to enjoy! Don’t worry, you won’t miss the final season of Stranger Things. As usual, Netflix is adding new movies and shows throughout the month, and this December, they’re especially strong in genres like Westerns, mysteries, and thrillers, alongside some holiday picks.
I’ve put together a guide to all the best TV shows hitting Netflix in December! There’s a series everyone’s saying could be the next Yellowstone, plus a really cool, visually stunning Korean disaster movie that I think I’m going to be obsessed with. I’ve also included a full list of everything new coming to Netflix, and what’s leaving soon, so you don’t miss out on anything you want to watch!
‘The Abandons’ (Season 1)
Available To Stream on December 4
I’m really intrigued by this new series, The Abandons. It’s set way back in 1854 Washington Territory and centers around a bitter feud between two families. You’ve got the Van Nesses, headed by the formidable Constance (Gillian Anderson) who’s determined to control everything, and then Fiona Nolan’s family, who are newcomers and constantly fighting to protect their land. It sounds like a classic rivalry, but with a twist – old secrets are bubbling to the surface, loyalties are being tested, and to make things even more complicated, there’s a forbidden romance brewing right in the middle of it all. I can’t wait to see how it plays out!
Kurt Sutter, known for creating shows like Sons of Anarchy and Mayans M.C., has generated a lot of excitement for his new series, The Abandons, even though he stepped away from the production. This large-scale, intense Western is intended to appeal to fans who miss Yellowstone, offering a dramatic story of conflict and power struggles during a significant period in American history. The show is also boosted by the popular actresses Gillian Anderson and Lena Headey. The Abandons will be available to stream in its entirety on December 4, 2025.
‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery’
Available To Stream on December 12
In the new mystery, Wake Up Dead Man, detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is called to a small church in upstate New York following the unexpected death of Monsignor Jefferson Wicks (Josh Brolin). His death throws the church community into turmoil and sparks a fight for control. Among those connected to the case are a young priest, a groundskeeper, a lawyer, a politician, a doctor, a cellist, and a prominent member of the church. As Blanc investigates, he must uncover the truth behind what seems like a flawless crime, all while questioning his own views on guilt, faith, and wrongdoing.
The newest Knives Out movie features a fantastic cast and takes a more serious turn than previous films, but it still keeps the exciting mystery and suspense fans love. This third installment in the popular Netflix series aims to be more thought-provoking and emotionally resonant, showing a natural progression for the films directed by Rian Johnson. Critics are already praising it – it currently has a 95% positive rating based on 93 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will be shown in select theaters starting November 26th, and will be available to stream on Netflix beginning December 12, 2025.
‘Emily in Paris’ (Season 5)
Available To Stream on December 18
The popular series Emily in Paris remains a hit on Netflix, and its latest season introduces a new location for the show. Season 4 moved Emily (Lily Collins) to Rome, and Season 5 confirms her permanent relocation to the beautiful and historic city. This change in scenery will bring fresh challenges for Emily, both in her personal life and career. All 10 episodes of Season 5 will be available to stream on December 18th.
‘The Great Flood’
Available To Stream on December 19
Anna (Kim Da-mi) is a brilliant AI researcher and a single mother, but her achievements feel insignificant when a global catastrophe causes massive flooding. As she fights to protect her son, constantly climbing to higher ground in a towering skyscraper, she receives a message from agent Hee-jo (Park Hae-soo). He believes she holds the key to saving humanity, if they can both reach the designated rescue point and survive.
If you’re looking for a big, exciting disaster movie, check out the new South Korean film, The Great Flood, directed by Kim Byung‑woo. It’s a fascinating story that combines sci-fi with thought-provoking ideas about artificial intelligence and how we interact with technology. South Korea consistently delivers amazing apocalyptic thrillers, and the trailer for this one is already getting fans excited. The Great Flood is an emotional and thrilling blend of sci-fi and disaster genres, and you can stream it starting December 19th.
‘Goodbye June’
Available To Stream on December 24
Netflix’s holiday film for adults, Goodbye June, centers around a family grappling with their mother, June (Helen Mirren), becoming seriously ill just before Christmas. June, despite her declining health, remains witty and determined, and decides to plan her own farewell, giving her the chance to have honest conversations with her four children – Julia (Kate Winslet), Helen (Toni Collette), Molly (Andrea Riseborough), and Connor (Johnny Flynn) – and their father, Bernie (Timothy Spall).
Kate Winslet’s Goodbye June is a very personal film for her, as she both stars in and directs it – marking her directorial debut. The script was co-written with her son, Joe Anders. The film is expected to draw audiences in, showcasing Winslet’s talent both on screen and behind the camera. Goodbye June is a touching family drama about loss and the holidays, and promises to be an emotionally powerful experience. It will be available on Netflix December 24, 2025.
