As you play Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, you’ll consistently unlock new characters to play as. The game keeps introducing them throughout the story, which helps keep things interesting. However, with 19 playable characters in total, some are more enjoyable and distinct than others. Having unlocked them all, I’ve definitely developed a list of favorites.
Okay, so in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, some characters are super important to the story and you’ll be using them a ton from the beginning. Others show up later and don’t get as much time to shine. Honestly, that means some of them just aren’t as fun to play – it’s hard to get invested in someone you barely know! But whether you’re wondering who’s available or just curious where your favorite Legend of Zelda character ranks, I’ve put together my personal tier list of all 19 warriors. Here’s how I’d rank them based on how good they feel to play.
19) Braton

This Goron becomes available later in the game, and he fights with a powerful sledgehammer. Using him can be a nice break from other characters if you enjoy strong, sweeping attacks. However, aside from that, he doesn’t really offer anything unique compared to other Gorons.
18) Pastos

Pastos is a Goron warrior who fights with powerful sword attacks, but he’s not very fast. He could be a good choice if you prefer a slower, more deliberate fighting style, though I personally like characters who move more quickly.
17) Quino

Quino fights with a broadsword and is a reliable, but slower, character. If you enjoy characters who deal heavy damage with deliberate attacks, he might be a good fit for your team. Personally, I prefer faster characters, so I didn’t explore him much.
16) Ronza

Ronza is one of our Gerudo friends and fights with a Claymore. She’s fairly quick for someone using a large, two-handed sword, though not as fast as some other fighters. She’s a solid character, but her fighting style doesn’t really have anything that makes her unique.
15) Lago

This character brings a playful twist to sword fighting as a Zora, allowing him to swim through the air with a special move. However, aside from that unique ability, he doesn’t offer much that stands out.
14) Cadlan

Cadlan is a Zora warrior who fights with a spear, and he’s fun to play if you prefer weapons you can use from a distance. However, like some of the less prominent characters, his fighting style isn’t particularly unique.
13) Pinnec

This Roti character fights with a spear that has feathers, giving him some reach. He can also fly when he sprints, which is a cool ability, but generally he’s a fairly typical combatant in battle.
12) Typhan

Typhan is one of the fighters in Hyrule, and he’s pretty good in battle – fun to play, too! He fights with a sword and shield, using classic slashing attacks.
11) Vence

Vence is a skilled fighter who uses a sword, much like many other sword-wielding characters in the game. He’s a decent choice for missions if he’s available, but there are usually team members who offer a stronger advantage.
10) Sholani

I’ve been having a blast with this Gerudo character who fights with a scimitar! She’s not the most powerful character out there, and doesn’t have crazy special moves, but she’s really quick and reliable in a fight. She’s a solid pick when I want something dependable.
9) Mineru

I personally don’t like playing as Mineru. Her large creations feel too distant from the actual fighting. However, if you enjoy battling with big robots and machines, you might have a lot more fun with her than I do.
8) Agraston

Out of all the elemental Sages, Agraston is probably my least favorite. While it’s amusing to see him roll around, he’s generally slow in battle. His attacks are powerful, but they take a while to charge up.
7) Rauru

The king of Hyrule fights with a powerful, glowing lance, and landing his attacks feels great. He’s not the fastest fighter compared to other characters, but he’s still a good choice for players.
6) Qia

Qia, the new Zora queen, is dedicated to honoring her father’s legacy. It’s a joy to watch her move with incredible speed, gliding through the air like she’s swimming. Plus, her ability to control water makes her a powerful opponent against enemies that use fire.
5) Mysterious/Knight Construct

If you enjoy feeling incredibly strong during combat, you’ll likely have a lot of fun playing as the Mysterious Construct in Hyrule Warriors. Its unique Zonai weapons are very powerful, allowing you to easily defeat large groups of enemies.
4) Raphica

Raphica is incredibly fast when he runs – he almost seems to fly! Like all Rito characters, he’s naturally agile, but as an elemental sage, he combines that speed with wind-enhanced arrow attacks, making him a formidable opponent.
3) Ardi

The Gerudo chief is a blast to play, with electric abilities that are great for temporarily disabling enemies. What really makes her unique is her fighting style – she relies heavily on kicks, unlike the other characters you can control.
2) Zelda

Zelda’s ability to manipulate time is a really engaging feature as you improve her skills, making her a standout fighter in the game. She has beautiful attack animations with her light sword, and landing her strong attacks is satisfying to learn.
1) Calamo

Honestly, playing as Calamo is the best part of the game, hands down. He’s super fast in battle, and his special moves do some serious elemental damage. And let’s be real, he’s ridiculously adorable!
