Filming for the new *Spider-Man* movie, *Brand New Day*, is happening now in the U.K., and fans are buzzing about what role *Stranger Things* star Sadie Sink will play. Sink hasn’t revealed much about her character since being cast in March, but she’s hinted it will be a significant one in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the movie still over a year away from its summer 2026 release, we’ve compiled a list of the characters people think she might be playing.
With so much Spider-Man comic book history to work with – over sixty years’ worth – the writers of *Brand New Day*, Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, have plenty of exciting possibilities for an actress as skilled as Sadie Sink.
7) Carlie Cooper
While not a hugely famous Marvel character, Jessica Cooper shares a resemblance with the actress portraying her, and she *does* appear in the ‘Brand New Day’ Spider-Man comics. Her background as an NYPD officer also suits the grounded, street-level story director Daniel Destin Cretton seems to be aiming for in the next Spider-Man movie. Cooper’s character offers interesting dramatic possibilities – she’s a love interest for Peter Parker, but also becomes a villain, known as Monster, after being exposed to the Goblin formula.
6) Julia Carpenter
While it might seem less probable given her recent appearance in the poorly received *Madame Web*, Emma Roberts, playing Jessica Drew (Carpenter), could still be the first Spider-Woman introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Carpenter has a significant history in Marvel comics, dating back to the 1980s. Beyond being known as Madame Web and Arachne, she’s also helped Ms. Marvel train new heroes. This could connect to the post-credits scene in *The Marvels*, where Kamala Khan mentions forming a Young Avengers team. Considering Peter Parker’s identity was wiped from everyone’s memory in *Spider-Man: No Way Home*, Sink, as Carpenter, could be a crucial connection for Peter to rejoin a superhero team.
5) Firestar (Angelica Jones)
Firestar, also known as Angelica Jones, is a character with fiery powers who could be a great addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She has a history with Spider-Man as a romantic interest and could become a strong ally, particularly if rumors about multiple villains in future stories are true. Given her connections to both the X-Men and the Avengers, and the rising popularity of actress Sydney Sweeney, casting her as Firestar would be a smart move. Her character could even play a key role in officially introducing the X-Men into the MCU.
4) Venom / Mary Jane Watson
Fans have wondered if Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would ever meet Mary Jane Watson, especially since Zendaya’s character was named Michelle Jones instead. With rumors swirling about Venom appearing in a future film, and Mary Jane recently becoming the host of the Venom symbiote in the comics, there’s a chance to introduce both characters in a fresh and exciting way – potentially with Mary Jane sporting her iconic red hair, like Sadie Sink.
3) Gwen Stacy
If Marvel can reimagine Mary Jane Watson as Michelle Jones, why not cast a redhead as Peter Parker’s other significant love interest? Since Spider-Man: Homecoming, Marvel Studios has shown a willingness to challenge typical superhero story conventions. If the rumors are true, the main question becomes whether Sadie Sink’s version of Gwen Stacy will survive, as her death is a pivotal moment in Peter Parker’s story.
2) Mayday Parker / Spider-Girl
There’s a popular theory about what role Sadie Sink will play in the new Spider-Man movie. Many believe she’ll portray Mayday Parker, the daughter of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson in the comics. In some comic book storylines, Mayday survives and gains powers like her father, becoming Spider-Girl. She’s also central to the story *One More Day*, which takes place before the events the new movie is based on. While Tom Holland, the current Spider-Man, isn’t old enough to be her father, fans speculate she could be the daughter of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man from Sam Raimi’s films – the version Peter Parker met in *No Way Home*. The movie hinted that Raimi’s Peter and Mary Jane had a stable life together, so it’s possible Sink is their daughter, traveling to the MCU to either help or ask for help from Peter Parker.
1) Jean Grey
As a huge movie fan, I’ve been following the rumors about who will play Jean Grey in the upcoming X-Men film, and Sadie Sink is a name that keeps popping up. If she’s not being considered for Mayday, most fans, myself included, think she’s a strong contender for Jean. Honestly, Jean Grey is such an iconic and powerful character, she’d be a fantastic way to introduce the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I think she’d be a great match for Spider-Man in this new adventure, and it’s a really complex role that Sadie could absolutely nail. Plus, because Sadie is so young, she could play Jean Grey for years to come, establishing her as a key member of the team. It’s interesting because when she was directly asked about playing Jean earlier this year, she didn’t exactly deny it, which definitely adds fuel to the fire!
