All the Fallout After Coldplay Exposed Astronomer CEO’s Alleged Affair

If Andy Byron and Kristin Cabot had remained more composed during the Coldplay concert, perhaps nothing like this would have transpired.

Instead of appearing on the jumbtron during Chris Martin’s July 16 concert at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, as expected from his lighthearted banter, two individuals managed to avoid the attention and became the subject of a viral social media sensation as people eagerly identified them.

Martin jokingly suggested, ‘Either they’re involved in a secret relationship,’ or else they’re both rather bashful.’

In that tense instant, as the camera held steady on the uncomfortable scene unfolding, I found myself, utterly captivated and somewhat speechless, muttering, “I’m a bit unsure of my next move.

It’s not a walk in the park, yet nobody suggested that understanding Byron and Cabot were colleagues who were wedded to others would be an effortless task.

Since it’s not usual for a high-profile scandal like the one caused by his controversial joke and daily business responsibilities to coexist, Byron resigned from his position as CEO of Astronomer just a few days later.

Despite still holding her position as the Astronomer’s main personnel officer, Cabot and Byron have chosen to remove their LinkedIn profiles and are generally refraining from feeding the public’s curiosity about them.

Ever since the camera captured them amidst a crowd in the stadium, sparking their fame, there’s been an ongoing discussion about marital loyalty, power relationships, company affairs, and the true nature of Astronomer.

Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, a professor at Yale’s School of Management, expressed a sense of satisfaction in seeing a power shift happening, likening it to a battle between the privileged and underprivileged, when he spoke to the Wall Street Journal.

To avoid any confusion, let’s retrace our steps. Here are the key points regarding the controversy:

1. Simple and clear sentences are used for easy understanding.
2. The purpose of returning to the beginning is to clarify any potential confusion or misunderstanding.
3. The phrase “Here are the key points” indicates that the following information is important and should be noted.
4. The word “controversy” can be replaced with “scandal” for better clarity, as it refers to a situation causing widespread public disagreement, anger, or outrage.
5. The sentence structure is easy-going and conversational, making it accessible to a wide audience.

At Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on July 15, the lead singer of Coldplay, Chris Martin, focused his attention on a couple who appeared to embrace each other when they spotted themselves on the giant screen.

Martin shared with the gathering earlier, “We’ll be using our cameras for this.” He then explained, “If you glance at the screens, we’ll appear and greet those who are here to say hello.” First up was a young man who was pleasantly surprised by an unexpected birthday wish from Martin.

The singer remarked, ‘Check out these two,’ as the shot focused on a snug duo. However, the man quickly moved away and the lady, shielding her face with her hands, spun around to avoid the camera.

Martin jokingly implied, ‘They’re either involved in a secret relationship or they’re extremely reserved.’ He admitted, ‘I’m still not certain about the best course of action.’

After the woman moved from her spot, slipping through those following her, the singer remarked, “Oh my, I sure hope we didn’t act inappropriately.

At the event, Grace Springer recorded the intriguing scene on video for future generations. As the night wore on, internet detectives managed to unmask the squirrely duo as Andy Byron, CEO of Astronomer, and Kristin Cabot, the company’s Chief People Officer. In no time at all, social media users like TikTokers, X users, and others realized that both Byron and Cabot were already married to different individuals.

Shortly after that, Martin questioned the duo who appeared on the screen, “Alright, let me ask, are you two dating? Are you two an actual item?

Byron and Cabot used to work together but are no longer colleagues. Recently, they were seen at a Coldplay concert, sparking widespread online conversations. Neither of them has issued any public statement regarding this incident, and it appears that an apology claimed to be from Byron, which circulated on the internet the following day, was actually false, as reported by Astronomer.

In different roles, Byron served as CEO for data operations firm Astronomer (not related to space), while Cabot continues to lead the company’s Human Resources department.

Since then, both individuals appear to have removed their LinkedIn profiles, while various media sources claim that Byron’s spouse deactivated her Instagram and Facebook accounts. It is also said that they share two sons together.

Andrew Cabot, who is Cabot’s husband and the sixth-generation heir of a rum distiller bearing the same name since the American Revolution, as reported by various sources, left his tech career behind in 2011 to establish the spirits company known as Privateer Rum. They have two children together.

The firm Astronomer is responsible for Astro, a unified platform for data pipeline operations. This platform enables your team to construct, operate, and monitor data pipelines seamlessly, ensuring smooth functionality across a single interface, as stated on their website.

Established in Cincinnati, Ohio back in 2018, the company also maintains branches in San Francisco and San Jose, California.

Byron joined the company as CEO in 2023 and Cabot came onboard in 2024.

In May 2025, Bain Capital Ventures spearheaded a Series D funding round that brought in $93 million for Astronomer. At the time of announcement, Astronomer stated this as a single step towards their goal of creating a resilient and enduring software company, according to the New York Post.

The funding raised the firm’s valuation to $740 million, according to the Economic Times.

On July 18, an astronomer announced that the board of directors had started a thorough examination concerning the issue, and made it clear that the supposed statement attributed to Byron was, in fact, false.

The company emphasizes the principles and traditions we’ve held since our establishment. Our top brass should exemplify behavior and responsibility above reproach. Unfortunately, these expectations were not upheld lately.

It’s additionally worth mentioning that among those visible in the tragic jumbotron video, apart from the identified duo, none of them were employed by Astronomer. The company independently verified to the Associated Press that the woman with Byron in the video was indeed Cabot.

As confirmed by co-founder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy on July 18, Byron had already taken a leave from Astronomer. The following day, the company made an announcement about Byron’s resignation, with Pete DeJoy taking over as interim CEO in the meantime.

Andy Byron stepped down from his position, and the Board of Directors agreed to this resignation. The Board is now planning to find our next CEO, as stated. Meanwhile, DeJoy will carry on with his expanded responsibilities. (Astronomer communicated this to TopMob News in a statement.)

Over the past few days, our company, Astronomer, has found itself under an extraordinary level of media scrutiny – something that very few startups in our niche data and AI sector ever experience. It’s been an unusual and surreal journey for my team, but I must admit, it’s not a situation I would have chosen to arrive at in this manner. Nevertheless, we are now proudly recognized by many households, and that’s something I never thought would happen so soon.

Martin couldn’t even begin to try to fix what happened, but he’s had some fun with it since.

At the initial Coldplay concert following the controversy on July 19, the English vocalist cautioned the audience at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin, that a few of them could potentially be featured on the large screen.

“So please,” Martin said, “if you haven’t done your makeup, do your makeup now.”
